Analyst: Apple sold 8.8 iPads per store per hour on Black Friday

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 09:18 AM PST

According to a Piper Jaffray analyst named Gene Munster, Apple sold 8.8 iPads per store per hour during its November 26 Black Friday sale last week. Munster said that those figures are in line with his estimate that Apple will sell 5.5 million iPads during the quarter, Fortune is reporting. "We noticed that the iPad is gaining traction among demographics in which the Mac has historically not been successful. The bottom line is that Apple's addressable market is expanding with the iPad," Munster said. A separate report done by Deutsche Bank's Chris Whitmore found similar results. Whitmore surveyed 100 Apple stores and 50 resellers and said that "iPads are still selling like crazy." The sales figures could be related to Nielson's findings that the Apple iPad is at the top of kid's holiday gift lists this year, among electronic devices. Apple sold the iPad for $458, a $41 discount off its standard price, on Black Friday.
