| Sprint launching 4G WiMAX in Los Angeles this month Posted: 10 Nov 2010 12:48 PM PST Today a Sprint spokeswoman confirmed that Sprint will launch its 4G WiMAX network in Los Angeles by December 1. | HTC Sync 3.0 for now available for Android smartphones Posted: 10 Nov 2010 11:05 AM PST HTC has released the latest version of its Sync software for its Android smartphones. HTC Sync 3.0 is a desktop client and supports the Desire HD, Desire Z, Legend, Desire, Wildfire, Aria, and the Hero (running Android 2.1). | Vodafone may not sell Verizon Wireless stake Posted: 10 Nov 2010 06:58 AM PST Vodafone, which has hinted that a sale of its stake in Verizon Wireless could be in the works, may hold on to its 45 percent ownership of Verizon Wireless after all. According to Barron's, which cites Daily Mail, Vodafone's CEO Vittorio Colao has said that Vodafone will "look at all options but the current outlook is that dividends from cash growth is the way forward." Verizon is expected to begin paying dividends to Vodafone in 2012. Verizon stopped paying its dividends five years ago in an effort to pay off its debts. Read the full story here. |
| OmniVision outs 8MP RAW CMOS image sensor for smartphones Posted: 10 Nov 2010 06:45 AM PST Today OmniVision Technologies announced the OV8820, a 1/3.2-inch 8 megapixel RAW CMOS image sensor that offers 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, or 720p video at 60 frames per second, for smartphones. The sensor also supports full field of view HD video recording with image stabilization. The product uses OmniVision's OmniBSI backside illumination pixel architecture for good low-light performance, too. The OV8820 is sampling now and should enter mass production in March 2011. | Facebook for BlackBerry updated with Places Posted: 10 Nov 2010 06:02 AM PST Today Facebook and RIM announced that Facebook for BlackBerry has been updated to version 1.9. The latest iteration, which will roll out over the next 24 hours, offers Facebook Places support. Places lets Facebook users "check-in," to various locations, such as restaurants (within a 1.25 mile radius), much like they would with Foursquare or other location-based applications. Users can "like," or comment on check-ins, and tag friend at various places. Facebook v.19 for BlackBerry requires BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 or newer. | BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to cost under $500 Posted: 10 Nov 2010 05:57 AM PST RIM confirmed with Bloomberg recently that its upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will cost under $500. The PlayBook offers a 7-inch touchscreen display, a dual-core processor, support for video chat, and will run a new BlackBerry operating system specifically designed for tablets. RIM's sub-$500 pricing comes as no surprise; that's in-line with price tags for other tablets in the United States. Samsung's Galaxy Tab launched on T-Mobile today for $399, for example, and the Apple iPad starts at $499. Read the full story here. |
