| Yahoo Messenger with video chat launches on Android Posted: 10 Nov 2010 05:36 AM PST Today Yahoo announced that it is launching its Yahoo Messenger client for Android and that it is updating its Yahoo Mail Android client. Yahoo Messenger will offer two-way video calling with PCs, the iPhone, other Android phones, or any other internet enabled device. It also provides enhanced photo and video sharing and contact sync. Yahoo Messenger with video chat requires Android 2.2 Froyo and a Yahoo Messenger Video add-on. T-Mobile says support for the myTouch 4G and the HTC EVO 4G will be coming in the next few weeks. Yahoo Mail now provides support for multiple accounts, as well as enhanced photo viewing with a new gallery view feature. Both applciations are available for free in the Android Market. | SlingPlayer for Windows Phone 7 now available Posted: 10 Nov 2010 05:35 AM PST The SlingPlayer Mobile streaming TV viewer application for the Windows Phone 7 smartphone platform is now available, according to Sling Media. The application will allow users of Microsoft's latest smartphone platform to remotely view home television content from their Slingbox streaming media servers with a smartphone. | Google News revamped for smartphones Posted: 10 Nov 2010 05:27 AM PST Google has announced that it has redesigned its Google News website for the iPhone, the Palm Pre, and Android smartphones. Google says it has improved the site's usability and has added visual enhancements. By default, stories are now collapsed in an effort to prevent too much scrolling. | AT&T cuts BlackBerry Torch 9800 price in half Posted: 10 Nov 2010 05:23 AM PST AT&T has started selling the BlackBerry Torch 9800, the first BlackBerry OS 6 device in the United States, for $99. The phone is priced with a new two-year AT&T contract, and is half of its original $199 launch price. AT&T also began offering the Torch 9800 in both red and in white earlier this week. | Angry Birds for Android updated with new levels Posted: 09 Nov 2010 09:17 AM PST Today Rovio announced that it has updated its popular, and free, Angry Birds game for Android smartphones. Version 1.4.2, available from GetJar or the Android Market, includes support for QVGA devices and bug fixes for devices running Android 1.6. | Apple says iOS 4.2 coming soon Posted: 09 Nov 2010 08:33 AM PST In an email to developers, Apple said that iOS 4.2 will "soon be in the hands of millions of customers around the world." Apple wasn't specific as to how soon the update will roll out, but there's speculation that it could happen as soon as this week. iOS 4.2 will add multitasking and the Game Center to the iPad (two features already available on the iPhone and on the iPod touch). It will also add Apple's AirPrint technology, which enables wireless printing from the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. | Google intros Instant Preview in search Posted: 09 Nov 2010 08:30 AM PST Today Google introduced a new feature to its search results. After performing a search, users now have the option to preview a snapshot of websites that appear in search results. By clicking a small magnifying glass next to a given result, a thumbnail will pop up to reveal an Instant Preview. After activating the Instant Preview feature, you can view thumbnails of all search results by hovering over them. While this feature is limited to desktop browsers now, we wouldn't be surprised to see a form of it appear on mobile platforms, such as Android, in the future. After all, Google introduced Instant Search in September, and added the feature to Android and iPhone devices earlier this month. Read the full story here. |
| Nokia to offer NFC on future Symbian devices Posted: 09 Nov 2010 08:03 AM PST Speaking to Bloomberg recently, Nokia's senior vice president, Jo Harlow, confirmed that Nokia plans to add near-field communications (NFC) capabilities into future Symbian smartphones. The Nokia C7, which was announced in September, supports the technology. Nokia hasn't confirmed where NFC technology might be used, although some banks have started to test tap-and-go style transactions. Read the full story here. |
| Verizon Motorola DROID Pro Android smartphone available now Posted: 09 Nov 2010 07:24 AM PST Ahead of schedule, the DROID PRO is now available on Verizon Wireless' website. Yesterday Verizon Wireless said that the DROID PRO would not ship until November 18, but it's possible to add the device to your cart and check out now. Engadget says some readers have reported overnight shipping confirmations, too. The DROID PRO offers a 3.1-inch 480 x 320 pixel touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard. It runs Android 2.2 Froyo, supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1 content, and has a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash. | Motorola CLIQ Android 2.1 update now available Posted: 09 Nov 2010 07:14 AM PST After many delays, today Motorola released the Android 2.1 update for its CLIQ smartphone. The software is available as a .zip file on Motorola's website and is not being pushed out over-the-air. It includes a number of new features that include a task manager, a Sticky Note widget, improved calendar and weather widgets, contact quick tasks, and more.
