| ZTE announces world's first CDMA 1X Advanced voice call Posted: 01 Nov 2010 06:16 AM PDT Today ZTE announced that it has placed the first CDMA 1x Advanced voice call. The firm noted a four-fold increase in voice capacity. ZTE's general manager of its CDMA and LTE product line, Li Jian, said that it's easy for operators to deploy the CDMA 1x Advanced technology on their existing networks/ "The existing investment can be protected to the maximum, as only the 1x channel card needs to be replaced," Li said. CDMA 1x Advanced technology should offer increased voice capacity, expanded coverage, and improved voice quality. ZTE said it plans to launch a commercial version during Q1 2011. The site quotes Samsung as saying that rumors to the contrary are "simply not true." | Mount Everest now has its own 3G network Posted: 01 Nov 2010 05:45 AM PDT A firm called Ncell has deployed a 3G network on Mount Everest, BBC News is reporting. Mount Everest climbers could be able to place calls from the summit of Mount Everest from the cell tower located 17,000 feet up the mountain, although climbers have not yet tested a call from the peak.
