iOS 4.2 Gold Master for iPad released for developers

Apple iOS 4.2 Gold Master for developers has been released for developers. The latest version might fix some of the claimed Wi-Fi issues in iOS 4.2, but that's not confirmed yet. It's expected that Apple will release the final version to iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch versions this month.

AT&T to Samsung Focus owners: don't buy a microSD card yet

AT&T has issued a statement to Samsung Focus owners alerting them not to purchase a microSD card for their phone just yet. Windows Phone 7 doesn't work with all microSD cards, which is probably why most of the WP7 phones don't come with an accessible slot. "Windows Phone 7 requires a certified high-speed microSD card for optimal performance. Because the Samsung Focus is expandable via a microSD card, only microSD memory cards certified for Windows Phone 7 should be used. This information is not currently marked on any microSD packaging in market today. As a result, we are advising customers to delay purchasing an external microSD card until the cards identified as "Certified for Windows Phone 7" are available commercially or in AT&T stores," AT&T said.

Bump 2.2 for iOS enables music sharing

Today Bump updated its iOS application for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Version 2.2, the latest iteration, allows you to select songs on your phone and share them with a friend. You acquaintance will then be able to stream the song for free from YouTube, listen to a preview in iTunes, or purchase the track from iTunes. The app is free and available now from iTunes.

Apple iTunes 10.1 now available

Today Apple released iTunes version 10.1. The new software allows users to stream multimedia content, such as photos, music, or videos, from one iOS device with AirPlay to another. That includes the AppleTV. It also includes the option to turn off Apple's social media-like Ping functionality. iTunes 10.1 will support iOS 4.2 syncing when it is released for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. iOS 4.2 appears to bedelayed, and rumor has it the delay is attributed to Wi-Fi issues. You can update your iTunes to version 10.1 by opening the software and going to Help > Check for Updates.

Swype for Nokia N8 now available

Today Swype, the popular alternative keyboard option, launched for the Nokia N8 in the Ovi Store. Swype for the N8 is available in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese, with more languages coming soon. Swype is available from the Ovi Store for free as a 3.30MB download. Facebook may be planning to launch an email service next week, the Financial Times is reporting. Such a service would no doubt be accessible on mobile devices. Facebook is also spending $450 million on a new data facility in North Carolina.

Samsung Galaxy Tab price cut to GBP479 from Amazon UK

The Samsung Galaxy Tab, a 7-inch Android 2.2 Froyo tablet, is available for just GBP479 ($767) from Amazon's UK website. That's down from the original GBP529.99 ($848) pricing when the tablet first launched. Pricing for the device remains unchanged on Amazon's U.S. site. T-Mobile tethering and Wi-Fi sharing plans launch on Sunday

T-Mobile today announced that its new Tethering and Wi-Fi Sharing service plans will launch this Sunday, November 14 for T-Mobile customers. The plan is available for phones capable of tethering and Wi-Fi sharing, and costs $14.99 per month on top of an existing $30 monthly Even More plan or their $25 Even More Plus no contract monthly plan.

T-Mobile intros two new Even More Plans

Today T-Mobile introduced two new Even More promotional plans. These plans include the Even More Individual option which includes 1,500 minutes, and unlimited text and web for $79.99 per month. A secondary Even More Family Plan includes 3,000 minutes and unlimited text and web for $149.99 per month. The plans will be available this Sunday, November 14.

RadioShack offering Windows Phone 7 smartphones

Radio Shack is now offering Windows Phone 7 smartphones. The retailer is now selling the T-Mobile HTC HD7, the AT&T LG Quantum, and the AT&T Samsung Focus. Bing Search for Android now available in Market

Bing Search is now available for all Android smartphones. The search app is available for free in the Android Market and allows you to search for images, movies, maps, search locally as well as for directions. You can also use your voice to search without typing. Bing originally launched on some Verizon Wireless handsets and was not available for all Android users. Now everyone has the option to use it. Head to the Android Market to give it a whirl yourself, it appears to be working quite well on our phones here so far.

Virgin Media begins HTC Desire Android 2.2 Froyo update

Virgin Media has announced that it is beginning to roll-out Android 2.2 Froyo to HTC Desire owners. Virgin Media strongly recommends you download the over-the-air update over a Wi-Fi network and opt to backup your handset first. Froyo will provide the option to save apps to your SD card, Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, HD video recording, and more. To manually update, go to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates > Check Now.
