Verizon considers higher price for 4G data

Verizon is considering charging customers for data based on the speed of the network they are using, The Wall Street Journal says. Verizon also expects its 4G LTE network will attract many more data users in the coming years.

Nokia Ovi Store hits 3 million downloads a day

Today Nokia discussed some of its Ovi Store figures. Nokia says that there are three million downloads a day from its Ovi Store application market. There are now over 165 million Ovi Store users in more than 190 countries, and that figure is reportedly growingby 250,000 new users daily. 90 percent of those that visit the store end up downloading something, and the average Ovi Store registered user has downloaded 2.6 apps. The top three apps in the Ovi Store are CellApp's Q Torch, Rovio's Angry Birds, and EA's NEed for Speed Shift HD.

Rhapsody 2.0 for Android offers offline playback feature

Today Rhapsody announced the latest version of its music application for Android smartphones. Rhapsody for Android 2.0 doesn't require streaming. That means users can download tracks and then listen to them even when a 3G or Wi-Fi signal isn't available. Rhapsody provides access to more than 10.6 million tracks and subscriptions start at $9.99 per month.

Dell dissolves mobile unit; exec Ron Garriques to step down in January

According to the Wall Street Journal, Dell has filed documents with the SEC that indicate that Ron Garriques, head of the company's mobile device unit, will officially leave the company in January. Garriques' unit will then be disbanded and its products, which include the Android powered Streak, will be absorbed by other parts of the company. The Journal reports that Garriques will serve the company as a consultant during the remainder of 2011. Dell is scheduled to report its third quarter financials on Thursday.

Hulu Plus for iPad and iPhone updated with split-screen player

Today Hulu announced that it was dropping its Hulu Plus pricing to $7.99 per month. However, it also updated its iOS application with some new features. Hulu Player 2.0 for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch now allows split-screen playback, which allows you to still interact with Hulu Plus while watching a video. This could be useful for adding videos to your playlist while watching a show. It also revamped its queue to show shows that aren't available for playing outside of a web browser. PC World also noticed better performance over WiFi. Hulu Plus 2.0 for iPad is available in iTunes now and requires iOS 3.2 or later.

Cellular South picks Samsung for 2011 4G network rollout

Cellular South and Samsung have announced a strategic alliance to build out Cellular South's 4G mobile broadband network around long-term evolution (LTE) technology. Cellular South hopes to have both 4G handsets and a 4G LTE network by the fourth quarter of 2011. "Cellular South is pleased to partner with Samsung Mobile on an LTE solution that uses our entire spectrum in the lower 700 MHz band," Hu Meena, Cellular South's CEO, said.

AT&T launches its first MiFi hotspot device

Today AT&T announced its first 3G wireless hotspot device, the AT&T Mobile HotSpot MiFi 2372. The MiFi 2372 will allow its owner to share a 3G connection with up to five WI-Fi capable devices.

T-Mobile still selling Even More Plus plans, just not online

Today T-Mobile confirmed with Mobile Burn that it is still offering its Even More and Even More Plus plans. However, it will not be offering the Even More Plus plans through its online store. Customers can still purchase plans through T-Mobile retail stores, telesales, and select national retail partners and dealers.

Google Docs editing comes to Android and iOS

Today Google announced that it has updated its Google Docs software so that it now supports Android and iOS mobile browsers. That means users on Android 2.2 Froyo and iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users will be able to edit Google Docs files by visiting docs.google.com from their mobile browsers. iOS users will need to be running iOS 3.0 or newer. Google Docs editing will initially support English only, but Google says it will be adding support for other languages soon. Google will be rolling out the new feature over the next couple of days.

AT&T says 80 percent of network now upgraded to HSPA+

AT&T's CTO, John Donovan, said that 80 percent of AT&T's network has now been updated to HSPA+, IDG News Service is reporting. Donovan said that the HSPA+ network should offer up to 2.5x the speed of the current HSPA network. The AT&T Shockwave, an HSPA+ USB modem, is capable of running on the network, but AT&T does not yet offer any HSPA+ capable handsets. Donovan also noted that, while the usage of its data network has slowed a bit, data traffic on the network has grown more than 3,000 percent over the last 3 years, IDG reported.

Zuckerberg apologizes for Facebook glitch

Mark Zuckerberg, Facbook's CEO, recently apologized for a bug that was accidentally deleting some Facebook accounts. The users were alerted of "erroneous violations of its terms of service," PCMag says. "I apologize to those users for that bug," Zuckerberg said, noting that it wasn't related to Facebook's new messaging platform that was announced on Monday. "I think we were able to get [the users] back on the site," he said.

The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is now available from T-Mobile for $129.99 with a new 2-year contract. The Bold 9780 is the third BlackBerry 6 device on the market, following the Torch and the Style.
