| Verizon offering free Jawbone Bluetooth headsets with select phones on Black Friday Posted: 24 Nov 2010 12:54 PM PST Verizon Wireless will offer a free Jawbone ICON Hero Bluetooth headset with purchases of select phones on November 26. Verizon was not specific about which phones the device would be available for free with, and it appears that purchases need to be made in Verizon retail stores. Read the full story here. |

| HTC strikes patent licensing deal with Intellectual Ventures Posted: 24 Nov 2010 08:35 AM PST HTC has agreed to a long-term licensing agreement with Intellectual Ventures, which will provide it with more than 30,000 patents. The patents will give HTC the assets to "defend itself and its subsidiaries from potential litigation."HTC is one of the fastest growing companies in the mobile phone industry, and it understands the value of actively protecting its invention rights. Given HTC's innovativeness in developing some of the industry's first smartphones and its continued development of some of the world's most advanced products, HTC is forward-thinking with its IP practices and is working with IV to mitigate its IP risk," the founder and vice chairman of Intellectual Ventures, Peter Detkin, said. "I am delighted to welcome Jerri to the Nokia team. Her experience and proven track record from a wide range of consumer businesses will be a great boost to increasing consumer focus and will bring fresh thinking as we strive for a clearer value proposition for our consumers and continue to build the Nokia brand," Stephen Elop, Nokia's CEO said. | Yelp intros "Check-in Offers" on Android Posted: 24 Nov 2010 06:03 AM PST Yelp is introducing a new feature into its Android application called "Check-in Offers," which lets users check into locations, such as restaurants, and receive relevant deals. Restaurants will now be able to offer rewards, such as a discount on food or a free drink, to any customers that check in using Yelp. Yelpers can also post their location to Facebook or Twitter. | Nokia to release special "green" N8 and C7 smartphones with Telefonica Posted: 24 Nov 2010 05:26 AM PST Today Nokia announced that it will be launching special "green" versions of the N8 and the C7 on Telefonica. The special versions of those phones will come preloaded with an eco apps folder, educational green content, and other third party applications with an eco-focus. The phones will also have a link to its eco-profile and a condensed single-page start-up guide. Nokia has said the C7 and the N8 are already eco-friendly in their build design, with power efficient displays and bio plastic build materials. Nokia says the project will first launch in Spain and will be introduced to other Telefonica markets later, including in the UK, Germany, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. Read the full story here. |

The latest version offers faster JavaScript performance as well as support for geolocation. Web services such as maps and travel applications will be able to locate your for more accurate search. The app also features kinetic scrolling, a virtual keyboard, and auto-rotation to landscape mode. | AT&T and Sprint petition to swap some spectrum licenses Posted: 24 Nov 2010 05:02 AM PST Sprint and AT&T have filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commission to seek approval to exchange spectrum licenses. AT&T hopes the swap will increase its capacity and allow for more growth in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver, New Orleans-Baton Rouge, Des Moines-Quad Cities, Honolulu, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Omaha, Louisville-Lexington- Evansville, Salt Lake City, and Spokane-Billings. Sprint hopes to expand its services in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, New Orleans, South Bend-Mishawaka, Charlotte-Greensboro- Greenville, and Cleveland. Read the full story here. |
