Orange refreshes data plan prices, intros Mobile WIFi device

Today Orange announced that it has shuffled its mobile broadband and SIM only plans. Orange users should see a new £5 ($8) discount on mobile broadband. Orange Dolphin plans now come with 1GB of data while Orange Racoon packages offer 500MB. Orange also announced its Mobile Wi-Fi service by launching the Novatel Wireless 3352. Using the Novatel Wireless 3352, Orange users can share their 3G connection with up to five other Wi-Fi enable devices. The Novatel Wireless 3352 costs as low as £49 ($78.70) depending on the corresponding data plan.

T-Mobile myTouch 4G Android smartphone launches today

Today T-Mobile launched its second 4G device, the T-Mobile myTouch 4G. The T-Mobile myTouch 4G offers HSPA+ connectivity, runs Android 2.2, sports a 5 megapixel camera with HD recording, and more. It's also powered by a zippy second generation 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The myTouch 4G is available in black, plum, red, and white and is priced at $199.99 with a new 2-year T-Mobile contract. We have a device in-house so expect a review soon.

T-Mobile lights up 4G network in six new markets

Today T-Mobile announced that its HSPA+ 4G network is now available in six new markets, including Chicago, Ill.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Louisville, Ky.; and Raleigh-Durham and Wilmington, N.C.The network is now available in a total of 75 metropolitan markets across the United States. T-Mobile also launched the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 4G, a netbook with HSPA+ connectivity. T-Mobile currently has two phones that run on its 4G network, the T-Mobile G2 and the myTouch 4G.

Apple iPad nabs 95 percent of global tablet market in Q3 2010

Global Apple iPad shipements during the third quarter of 2010 were responsible for about 95 percent of all tablet shipments during the quarter, Strategy Analytics said today, according to the Wall Street Journal. Android shipments were responsible for just 2 percent of the global shipments, although that figure will likely increase as the Samsung Galaxy Tab continues to launch globally. The Apple iPad launched earlier this year, and is now available for purchase from Verizon Wireless and AT&T.

European Commission backs Symbian, SYMBEOSE consortium created

Today The Symbian Foundation announced that the European Commission has decided to offer its support for the platform. A new consortium has been created, and it's called SYMBEOSE, or Symbian - the Embedded Operating System for Europe. There will be over EUR22 million ($31 million) invested in the consortium's future developments.

U.S. Cellular intros $70 Primary Plus Plan

Today U.S. Cellular introduced a new $69.99 Primary Plus data plan that provides 5GB of data, unlimited text, picture, and video messaging, and free GPS navigation. The plan also offers 450 voice minutes with free incoming calls, free nights and weeks, and free mobile-to-mobile calls. The Primary Plus Plan is part of U.S. Cellular's "Belief Project," which it announced on October 1. The Belief Project provides incentives to U.S. Cellular customers over time.

Skyfire 2.0 for Apple iOS lands Thursday with partial Adobe Flash support

Skyfire 2.0 for iPhone will be available on Thursday at 9am, and it's bringing some Adobe Flash player support with it. By converting Flash files to HTML5, iOS device owners will finally be able to watch embedded Flash videos. Read on for a video of the browser in action, too.

Opera mini browser launches for T-Mobile phones

Today Opera announced that its Opera Mini mobile web browser is now available for download on eight of T-Mobile's phones that are currently available. The software is said to shrink websites by up to 90 percent, allowing for faster loading times on 2.5G and EDGE networks. The app will run on T-Mobile's Nokia 2330, 2720, 3711, 5130, Sony Ericsson Equinox, Samsung T239, Samsung T659, and Nokia E73 Mode.

Verizon teases Samsung Continuum Galaxy S Android smartphone

Today Verizon Wireless updated its Holiday website with a teaser image of the upcoming Samsung Continuum, a Galaxy S smartphone that appears to sport a secondary display just below the primary Super AMOLED one. There's not a whole lot of information about the phone just yet, but you can sign up for more information. We suspect this device will be announced during Samsung's press event next Monday, November 8.

Report: 28 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers own a smartphone

Nielsen has released its latest snapshot of the U.S. mobile industry. The report found that 28 percent of U.S. mobile users own a smartphone, and also offered up some other compelling tidbits. For one, 50 percent of Android smartphone owners are under the age of 35.

Google sues U.S. government for being "restrictive of competition"

Google is suing the U.S. Department of the Interior claiming that the government was being "unduly restrictive of competition," after the U.S. Department of the Interior requested quotes on services to replace its email and collaboration services. The catch? The U.S. Department of the Interior required that any solution be compatible with Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite.

Target to sell iPhone 4, 3GS beginning on November 7

Target will begin selling the Apple iPhone 4, as well as the older iPhone 3GS, on November 7. The phones will be available in the 846 Target stores that also have a Target Mobile retail area inside. Target Mobile will provide support and in-store activation. Target also says that you can use Target's trade-in- service to trade used cell phones, MP3 players video games, and more for credit towards any purchase at Target.

Google: 77 percent of Android smartphones run Eclair or Froyo

According to new data from Google, 77 percent of smartphones running Android are powered by either Android 2.1 Eclair or Android 2.2 Froyo. Eclair still has a larger market share than Froyo, and Android 1.5 and Android 1.6 continue to be phased out.
