Apple recently pulled an application called "Manhattan Declaration," from its iTunes App Store after 7,000 petitions emailed calling the application "anti-gay," and "anti-choice."

Motorola completing split on January 4

Today Motorola announced that its board of directors has approved the split of Motorola Mobility from Motorola, Inc and that the separation will occur on January 4. Motorola, Inc. will change its name to Motorola Solutions and will trade on the NYSE under the ticker symbol MSI, Motorola Mobility Holdings will trade under the symbol MMI. "Today's announcement marks another important milestone toward the upcoming separation that is expected to benefit Motorola, its stockholders, as well as each company's respective customers and employees. We look forward to taking advantage of the opportunities before us as we begin the new year as two independent, publicly traded companies," Greg Brown, Motorola co-CEO and CEO of Motorola Solutions, and Sanjay Jha, Motorola co-CEO and future CEO of Motorola Mobility, said in a joint statement. Winamp for Android general release now available

Today AOL announced that its Winamp music player for Android smartphones has left bet and is now available as a final version. Winamp for Android provides wireless desktop sync over Wi-Fi with the Winamp desktop client, the ability to import tracks from your iTunes library, SHOUTcast Radio, and more. Winamp for Android is available for free.

HTC Desire Z Android smartphone now available from Vodafone UK

The HTC Desire Z, an Android smartphone with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, a 5MP camera, and a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, is now available from Vodafone UK. Billionaire Branson's "Project" iPad magazine now available

"Project," the iPad magazine that was created by British billionaire Richard Branson (of Virgin franchise fame), is now live in the Apple iTunes App Store. The iPad-only magazine costs $2.99 and provides a full month's worth of updating content that includes international culture, entertainment, design, business and travel, and other topics. "Project" requires iOS 4.2 or later.

Samsung posts Captivate, Vibrant GPS fix guides online

Samsung has posted guides for obtaining a more accurate GPS reading on its T-Mobile Vibrant and AT&T Captivate Galaxy S phones online. The guides walk users through how to update the phones with the appropriate software fix and how to use and install the GPS Restore Application. Samsung originally acknowledged the GPS issues in August, and released an over-the-air fix for the Captivate in September.

Dell Venue Pro available for $149.99, shipping December 14

Dell has posted the Windows Phone 7 powered Venue Pro on its website for preorder. The Venue Pro is available for $149.99 with a 2-year T-Mobile contract, or for $499.99 without a contract. Angry Birds for Android surpasses 8 million downloads

Today Rovio Mobile confirmed with Mobile Burn that its Angry Birds game has been downloaded more than 8 million times on Android devices. Rovio Mobile launched Angry Birds for Android as a free download in mid-October and it has recently confirmed that it will offer a Christmas edition of the game in December.

According to the creator of the ChevronWP7 Windows Phone 7 unlock tool, Microsoft may launch a major Windows Phone 7 update in January. The update could include copy/paste, multitasking support, and more, but for now it remains a rumor.

Apple iPad now available in South Korea

The Apple iPad is now available in South Korea. According to AFP, there were lines outside of KT, the South Korean wireless operator that's currently the only Apple partner in South Korea offering the iPad. KT has reportedly received 50,000 preorders for the iPad since it began accepting orders on November 17. "We've started distributing it nationwide. Customers are receiving their preordered iPads at the moment," a KT spokesperson told AFP. The device starts at 218,000KRW ($192) with a 2-year contract.

MySpace updates mobile site and iPhone app

Today MySpace announced that it has redesigned its mobile website and has updated its iPhone application. The mobile website works on iPhone, iPod touch, Android, Palm and select Nokia and BlackBerry devices. It provides music, video, and celebrity status updates, photos, and more. The iPhone application provides updates on celebrities and artists on MySpace, and more. The MySpace iPhone app also compliments other iPhone apps including Myspace Music Videos. MySpace expects the app to be available in the coming weeks, and says its mobile website is live now at http://m.myspace.com.

BlackBerry 8980 pops up in FCC docs

The BlackBerry 8980, an unannounced smartphone, has popped up in some documents on the FCC's website. The documents detail a device with quad-band GSM/EDGE radios, Wi-Fi, and a 3.2MP camera. The BlackBerry 8980 looks a lot like the BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 which launched on T-Mobile in early October, and it has some similar features, including an optical trackpad. The device could possibly launch on AT&T or T-Mobile, although its features are so similar to the 9300 we're not sure what makes it stand out. We'll keep you in the loop if we hear more on the phone.

BlackBerry App World now home to 15,000 apps

Today RIM confirmed via its official BlackBerry account that its App World application store is now home to 15,000 applications. By comparison, there are more than 100,000 apps available in the Android Market, and more than 300,000 apps available in Apple's iTunes App Store.

Deutsche Telekom to offer FlyNet HotSpot broadband on international flights

Today Deutsche Telekom announced that, beginning on December 1, it will offer its FlyNet HotSpot on-board broadband internet service on some North Atlantic Lufthansa flights. The service will be available on all Lufthansa flights by the end of 2011 and it will be free through the end of January 2011.

Verizon discussing 38-city 4G LTE rollout on December 1

Today Verizon Wireless announced that it will hold a press confernece on Wednesday, December 1, to discuss its 4G LTE network launch. Verizon Wireless has been advertising the new network heavily recently, with spots on Monday Night Football pegging a December 4 LTE launch and more. Verizon Wireless has said it has plans to rollout its 4G LTE network in 38 major metropolitan areas, covering more than 110 million Americans, by the end of the year. EU antitrust regulators investigating Google

The European Union's antitrust team is reportedly investigating Google. It will examine if Google was "[imposing] exclusivity obligations on advertising partners, preventing them from placing certain types of competing ads on their websites, as well as on computer and software vendors, with the aim of shutting out competing search tools," the European Commission said. Complaints were filed by Microsoft and Foundem, and Foundem accused Google of "stifling innovation."

O2 Germany testing 4G LTE with some customers

O2 Germany is reportedly providing some of its customers in Edersberg, Munich, Halle, and Teutschenthal with free 4G LTE for six months as part of a trial that begins next month, German website Golem is reporting. O2 Germany will provide the test batch of "several hundred people," with an LTE capable USB stick or router as well as a SIM card with an unlimited data plan. O2 Germany says its 4G LTE network has a peak download rate of 93.23Mbps and upload speeds in the area of 2.28Mbps.
