| Sprint activates 4G WiMAX network in San Francisco Posted: 28 Dec 2010 04:57 AM PST Today Sprint announced that its 4G WiMAX network is now availabale to customers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sprint offers two phones that run on its 4G WiMAX network, the Samsung Epic 4G and the HTC EVO 4G. | iPhone Dev Team shows beta jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 Posted: 27 Dec 2010 08:20 AM PST The infamous iPhone Dev Team has released a beta version of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 devices. The beta is currently only available to iPhone 4, iPad, and fourth generation iPod touch users, and it is not for the faint of heart. | Apple 8GB iPhone 3GS being offered by China Unicom contract-free Posted: 27 Dec 2010 08:09 AM PST China Unicom is now offering Apple's uberphone, the iPhone, to its users without need for a contract. A spokesman for Unicom's parent company stated that it would start offering the 8GB 3GS iPhone with no contract for CNY3,999. | California mine to supply needed rare earth minerals to high tech industries Posted: 27 Dec 2010 07:53 AM PST It appears that the Department Of Energy is pushing for the U.S. to, once again, mine its own "rare earth" minerals, which are key to the manufacturing of many different types of high tech components, such as those found in cell phones. Most of these minerals are currently imported to the U.S. from China, but China has begun to flex its muscles in this area and has been making the materials more expensive and harder to comeby. As a result, Molycorp is reopening one of its rare earth mineral mines in California. Rare earth mines, such as the one in California, fell out of fashion in the U.S. because of the environmental damage they can cause. Read the full story here. |
