| LG confirms Android 2.3 Gingerbread support for all U.S. Optimus One phones Posted: 10 Dec 2010 05:12 AM PST LG confirmed with MobileBurn last night that it will upgrade all U.S. Optimus Android handsets to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Yesterday LG said it would update the Optimus One, and we weren't certain if that would include the variations of the Optimus One across U.S. carriers. However, the carriers, as usual, must also support the upgrade. "If a carrier decides not to support the upgrade, that's beyond LG's control," a spokesperson told us. Read the full story here. |
| Costco to stop selling Apple products Posted: 09 Dec 2010 04:47 PM PST During a conference call yesterday, Costco's chief financial officer, Richard Galanti, said that Costco, through a mutual agreement with Apple, has decided to stop selling Apple products. Costco has been selling the iPad and iTunes gift cards. "In the past couple of months, we agreed to wind down," Galanti told The Seattle Times. Apple reportedly did not allow Costco to sell Apple's products online. Some other big-box retailers, such as Best Buy, are able to sell the iPad online. Read the full story here. |

| LG: Optimus One smartphones to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update Posted: 09 Dec 2010 01:45 PM PST Today LG confirmed that it will update its Optimus One smartphones with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. "LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue," LG said on its website. Hopefully that includes the many variations available on U.S. carriers. | Gmail for Android updated with new features Posted: 09 Dec 2010 01:26 PM PST Today Google announced it has updated Gmail on Android with a few new features. Gmail version 2.3.2 offers a priority inbox view which allows you to see important messages together, whether you've read them or not. There's also an improved compose feature which makes it easier to switch between replying to sender, replying to all, or forwarding an email. Google also added the option to send messages from any address you have configured on the desktop version of Gmail. Finally, Google added in-line responses, which allows you to view the previous message while you're responding. Gmail 2.3.2 works with Android 2.2 Froyo and newer releases. Google Instant begins to auto-complete your search terms as you type, and originally launched for Android and the iPhone web browsers in the U.S. back in November. | Foursquare: 5 million users and counting Posted: 09 Dec 2010 10:39 AM PST Foursquare's CEO and co-founder, Dennis Crowley, announced at the Le Web conference in Paris that his service, which is available as an application on most smartphone platforms, has surpassed 5 million users. That's up the 1 million users it announced it had in April, just 8 months ago. | Samsung India confirms Galaxy S Android 2.3 Gingerbread update Posted: 09 Dec 2010 09:02 AM PST Samsung India's official Twitter account has confirmed to its followers that Galaxy S users, at least in India we figure, will get the Android 2.3 update. We reached out to Samsung's USA team and were told that there is no official status on whether we'll see the update here, but it seems that it's still in the realm of possibility. Samsung has yet to roll-out Android 2.2 Froyo to its full line of Galaxy S handsets in the U.S., so we figure there will be a bit of a wait if an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update does happen. According to Boy Genius Report, the top albums currently have 90 second previews, but most other tracks still offer 30 second song previews. The update adds the ability to search for files by name, advanced file management, support for an external keyboard, and multitasking support for iOS 4.2. Quickoffice also said that it has initiated cloud partnerships with Huddle and SugarSync, two services that allow you to share and store files online.
