Google Galaxy Nexus with 4G LTE headed to Verizon this year Posted: 22 Oct 2011 04:57 AM PDT Verizon Wireless has announced that it will be carrying the Google Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone this year. Google Voice for iPhone updated with iOS 5 compatibility Posted: 21 Oct 2011 02:45 PM PDT After what seemed like an eternity for iPhone owners who used Google Voice (ok, it was really just a week), the Google Voice app for the iPhone has been updated to work with iOS 5 and is once again available in the iTunes App Store. Google had pulled the app last week after users filed numerous reports of it being broken after the iOS 5 update, and had promised to fix it and re-release it. The new version does not add any extra features, but a working app sure beats a non-working one. The Google Voice app for the iPhone is free and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store now. Sprint offers free mobile relay app for Android smartphone users Posted: 21 Oct 2011 08:41 AM PDT Sprint has announced the availability of a new relay service for Android users who are hard of hearing. The Wireless CapTel app lets users hold conversations with real-time word-for-word captions. A user can dial a phone number through the app, and they will be automatically connected to the CapTel service that will provide the captioning. Callers can listen to the recipients voice and read the captions at the same time. Users can receive captions on incoming calls if they give callers their special Wireless CapTel phone number to use. Wireless CapTel is free and available for Android 2.2 Froyo or higher smartphones on Sprint. Read the full story here. |

MetroPCS said to be front-runner for divested AT&T assets Posted: 21 Oct 2011 07:43 AM PDT According to a report from Bloomberg, MetroPCS may be a big winner in the buyout of T-Mobile by AT&T, as it would stand to gain the most from the assets that AT&T would have to divest to gain regulatory approval. Verizon sells 2 million iPhones in Q3, 1.4 million LTE devices Posted: 21 Oct 2011 05:55 AM PDT During the investor call for Verizon Wireless' Q3 2011 financial report, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo revealed that the carrier sold 2 million iPhones in the quarter, slightly less than competitor AT&T, which moved 2.7 million of Apple's smartphones. Verizon adds 1.3 million subscribers in Q3 2011 Posted: 21 Oct 2011 05:25 AM PDT Number one U.S. carrier Verizon Wireless added 1.3 million new subscribers in Q3 2011 according to the company's financial reports that were released this morning. This puts Big Red's total subscriber base at 107.7 million, 6.5 percent more than where it was at last year, and about 7 million ahead of rival AT&T. Read the full story here. |
