Motorola launches XOOM Family Edition Android tablet at reduced cost

Today Motorola announced that it will soon start selling the XOOM Family Edition Android Honeycomb tablet through Best Buy stores. The newest revision of the XOOM comes at a greatly reduced price and includes a few apps that help parents control how their kids use the tablet.

Motorola DROID HD specs leak out ahead of expected launch

Motorola and Verizon Wireless have scheduled a press conference for next week, and the companies are expected to debut a number of new devices, including the rumored DROID HD (also known as the DROID SPYDER and DROID RAZR). BGR has gotten its hands on what they claim to be the reported specs for the DROID HD, and they certainly look impressive.

Verizon updates privacy policy to track users, allows users to opt-out

Verizon Wireless began sending out emails to its users alerting them to its new privacy policy this week. Under Big Red's new rules, it will be tracking users' location, web browsing habits, and mobile phone usage for the express purpose of selling the data to advertisers.

FCC petitions AT&T for more clarification on T-Mobile purchase

The Federal Communications Commission has sent a letter to AT&T asking the carrier how its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile will add jobs to the American workforce. The FCC has asked AT&T similar questions already, but it deems that AT&T's answers have been incomplete thus far.

U.S. judge says Samsung's tablets infringe upon Apple iPad patents

U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh said in court yesterday that Samsung's line of Galaxy Tab tablets infringe upon Apple patents, but that Apple will have to proce the validity of those patents to win an injunction.

Skype now officially part of Microsoft

Microsoft has finalized its acquisition of VoIP service provider Skype. The purchase of Skype is the biggest in the history of Microsoft, at $8.5 billion, and it was recently approved by the European Union and the U.S. government.

Sony Ericsson kills off feature phones as part of Q3 2011 report

Sony Ericsson posted its Q3 2011 financial results today, and while the numbers were better than those of the previous quarter, the company is still down from where it was last year. Sony Ericsson's CEO Bert Nordberg stated that the company's focus for 2012 will be entirely on smartphones, and that it will not longer offer feature phone models.

Motorola stockholders to discuss Google acquisition on November 17

Motorola has announced a special meeting for its stockholders to discuss the proposed purchase of the company by Google that was announced back in August. The meeting will be held on November 17, and the stockholders will vote on whether to adopt the proposal at that time. Google announced its intent to buy Motorola Mobility earlier this year for the sum of $12.5 billion. Motorola faced a lawsuit shortly after that by a stockholder who claimed that the purchase price was not the best that Motorola could have gotten from Google.

Sprint clarifies Apple iPhone 4S unlocking procedures

There has been much confusion this week in regards to the Apple iPhone 4S and Sprint and its micro-SIM unlocking policies. Reports initially came out that Sprint would sell the iPhone 4S with a completely unlocked SIM slot, allowing users to put any old micro-SIM in there, which is especially handy when traveling. Then Sprint denied that claim, and said that the iPhone 4S would indeed have a locked micro-SIM slot, and that it wouldn't even be possible to unlock it. Now Sprint has issued a further statement on the matter, which will hopefully clear things up and put the issue to rest.
