Google Maps for Android update saves space on downloaded maps Posted: 20 Oct 2011 12:18 PM PDT Google just updated its Maps application for Android to version 5.11 and included one lonely feature that is probably very valuable to those whose phones have limited storage. The new version of Maps takes up less storage space than before, because downloaded maps are available for specific screen resolutions. Now users who have a phone with a lower screen resolution don't have to download maps that are optimized for a high-res, 4.5-inch display, and can save the storage space for something else, like their call log. Verizon turns on 4G LTE service in 22 cities today Posted: 20 Oct 2011 11:58 AM PDT As previously announced, today Verizon Wireless turned on 4G LTE service in twenty two new cities across the country. The newly 4G-enhanced cities are Birmingham, Ala.; Modesto and Stockton, Calif.; Fort Myers, Fla.; Bloomington, Elkhart, Evansville, South Bend and Terre Haute, Ind.; Sioux City, Iowa; Hagerstown, Md.; Tupelo, Miss.; Albuquerque and Santa Fe, N.M.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Asheville, N.C.; Bartlesville, Okla.; Jackson and Martin, Tenn.; Greater Hampton Roads and Richmond, Va.; and Green Bay, Wis. Coverage was expanded in Los Angeles and San Diego, Calif.; Washington, D.C.; and Erie, Pa. as well. More cities are expected to get 4G LTE data access on November 17. Read the full story here. |

Samsung releases images of Focus S, Focus Flash smartphones for AT&T Posted: 20 Oct 2011 07:24 AM PDT Samsung has finally released images of the upcoming Focus S and Focus Flash Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones that will be headed to AT&T in the near future. If you were hoping to own a Galaxy S II, but wanted Windows Phone 7.5 instead of Android, then it seems like the Focus S will be your best bet, as it looks like a near clone of the Galaxy S II. The Focus Flash is attractive as well, though it obviously has smaller dimensions. Read the full story here. |
AT&T's next LTE markets to be Boston, Washington D.C. Posted: 20 Oct 2011 07:22 AM PDT During the investor call for AT&T's Q3 2011 financial results, the carrier revealed that Boston and Washington D.C. will be the next markets to get its 4G LTE service. Unfortunately, the carrier did not specify when it would turn on the faster wireless service in those markets. AT&T already offers 4G LTE in five markets: Atlanta, Ga; Chicago, Ill; and Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Tx. AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph De La Vega also said that AT&T's LTE smartphones - due by the end of the year - will be thinner and lighter than those provided by the competition. Read the full story here. |
