Microsoft accelerates Windows Phone 7.5 update schedule Posted: 04 Oct 2011 04:51 AM PDT Following the successful launch of the Windows Phone 7.5 update across a number of devices, carriers, and countries, Microsoft has announced that it is releasing the upgrade now to 50 percent of all users that are out there. This is sooner than the company anticipated it would release the upgrade, as it had only released it to 10 percent of users up to this point. Microsoft initially said that it might take four weeks for the update to reach all users, but at this pace, it could come to everyone much sooner than that. Read the full story here. |

LightSquared says that it will "leverage Sharp's leading-edge product solutions" to develop a range of smartphones, tablets, and other devices that can be sold to the wholesale companies that will use LightSquared's network. Sharp does not have a large presence in the smartphone market in the U.S., but it has been behind a number of newsworthy devices, such as the original Sidekick and the Microsoft Kin. Samsung is finally releasing it to market, and the final specifications have not changed since its launch. It is the same thing as the larger Galaxy Tab 10.1, but with a display that is 1.2 inches smaller. The 8.9 is powered by the now-familiar dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM that we have seen on many Android Honeycomb tablets. It comes in 16GB and 32GB capacities. Like the 10.1, the 8.9 is very thin and light, measuring only 8.6mm thin and weighing 447g. It runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb with Samsung's TouchWiz user interface. Video: Google Music Beta in IE9 Mobile on Windows Phone 7.5 Posted: 30 Sep 2011 11:26 AM PDT Windows Phone 7.5, aka Mango, offers a number of upgrades to Microsoft's platform, including Internet Explorer 9 Mobile. IE9 Mobile is a very capable web browser, as you can see in this demonstration of Google Music Beta in it. Windows Phone lacks a dedicated Google Music app, but you can access and play all of your tunes that are stored in Google Music right in the phone's browser. The playback continues in the background, and there are controls in the notification panel and lock screen for play and pause. While it is not as ideal as a dedicated app for Google Music, it does get the job done when you are on the go. Watch the video here. |

Originally expected to take effect in October, Virgin's plans were to limit the connection speeds of smartphone users who exceeded 2.5GB of data usage in a month. The users would still be able to use data services on their phones at no additional charge, but their speeds would be dramatically lower until the next billing cycle. Foursquare brings Lists to its app for Android Posted: 29 Sep 2011 02:49 PM PDT Following the update that brought Lists to the iOS version of its app last week, foursquare has now updated its Android app with the new Lists function. The new foursquare for Android allows users to access and manage their lists right from their mobile devices. Additionally, foursquare has added the ability to connect a Twitter account within the app, and you can now sort your friends by Nearby or Worldwide parameters. Banks try to convince Congress that they need to robocall our cellphones Posted: 29 Sep 2011 02:33 PM PDT A new bill has been introduced in Congress that would make it legal for companies to use autodialers, aka robocall, when calling a customer's cellphone. It has been illegal for telemarketers to call people on their cellphones with automatic dialing systems since 1991. The new bill looks to reverse that, in the name of "informational purposes."
