Puerto Rico Justice Department throws its hat into the fight against AT&T/T-Mobile deal Posted: 30 Sep 2011 02:11 PM PDT The Puerto Rico Department of Justice has joined the U.S. Department of Justice in its case against the proposed purchase of T-Mobile by AT&T. Puerto Rico's Secretary of Justice, Guillermo A. AT&T asks court to dismiss Sprint, Cellular South cases against T-Mobile purchase Posted: 30 Sep 2011 01:45 PM PDT AT&T has asked the court overseeing its case with the Justice Department regarding its proposed purchase of T-Mobile to dismiss the lawsuits filed by Sprint and Cellular South that seek to block the purchase. Sprint launches Voicemail-2-Text service for BlackBerry users Posted: 30 Sep 2011 01:04 PM PDT Sprint launched a new service for BlackBerry users this week called Voicemail-2-Text. Similar to the visual voicemail applications that are available for other platforms, Voicemail-2-Text will transcribe a user's voicemail messages into text and then email the text to their BlackBerry. The user can then respond to the message with a single click. The service is free for the first 30 days, after which it costs $1.99 per month. Video: Google Music Beta in IE9 Mobile on Windows Phone 7.5 Posted: 30 Sep 2011 11:26 AM PDT Windows Phone 7.5, aka Mango, offers a number of upgrades to Microsoft's platform, including Internet Explorer 9 Mobile. IE9 Mobile is a very capable web browser, as you can see in this demonstration of Google Music Beta in it. Windows Phone lacks a dedicated Google Music app, but you can access and play all of your tunes that are stored in Google Music right in the phone's browser. The playback continues in the background, and there are controls in the notification panel and lock screen for play and pause. While it is not as ideal as a dedicated app for Google Music, it does get the job done when you are on the go. Watch the video here. |

Best Buy drops price of HTC Flyer tablet to $299 tomorrow Posted: 30 Sep 2011 09:04 AM PDT Best Buy has announced that a new, lower price for the HTC Flyer tablet will take effect tomorrow, October 1. The Flyer will permanently drop in price from $499 to $299. The Flyer is a Wi-Fi-enabled, 7-inch tablet that runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with HTC's Sense interface for tablets. It has support for the HTC Scribe, an optional capacitive pen than can be used to write on the screen. Virgin Mobile to pick up the HTC Wildfire S on October 23 Posted: 30 Sep 2011 08:45 AM PDT Virgin Mobile has announced that it will offer the HTC Wildfire S smartphone in Best Buy and RadioShack locations beginning on October 23. The Wildfire S is the first HTC phone for the prepaid carrier, and features a 600MHz processor, a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen, and a 5 megapixel camera. Virgin Mobile postpones smartphone data throttling until 2012 Posted: 30 Sep 2011 08:19 AM PDT Virgin Mobile has announced that it will postpone its original plans to throttle the connection speeds of heavy data users until 2012. Originally expected to take effect in October, Virgin's plans were to limit the connection speeds of smartphone users who exceeded 2.5GB of data usage in a month. The users would still be able to use data services on their phones at no additional charge, but their speeds would be dramatically lower until the next billing cycle.
