Sprint has put the Apple iPhone 4 up for pre-order, complete with its unlimited data options. The iPhone 4 is available in an 8GB configuration for $99 with a new two-year contract. The upcoming iPhone 4S will be available for pre-order on October 7, with shipments hitting stores on October 14. Sprint does not say when the iPhone 4 will be shipping, but it does note that supplies are limited, so those who want one should act fast.

Apple iPhone will have unlimited data on Sprint

Sprint has confirmed with Phone Scoop that the upcoming Apple iPhone 4S will be offered with an unlimited data plan, just like the rest of its smartphone lineup. The 5GB cap for mobile hotspot usage will apply to the iPhone, as well. Sprint has an advantage over AT&T and Verizon Wireless, the other carriers that offer the iPhone. Verizon and AT&T no longer offer an unlimited data plan for smartphones, including the iPhone.

Google adds +1 feature to Shopper app for Android

Google continues to spread its +1 feature throughout the many apps that it offers to smartphone users, and the Shopper app for Android is the latest one to get it. Version 2.2 of Google Shopper lets shoppers +1 their favorite items so that everyone in the world can see what products they like the most. Users can also save products to a shopping list and research prospective items through Google Product search. There is also a new "pamper" category that provides salon and spa products. Finally, Google has fixed some bugs and added Google Offers notifications to the app. Google Shopper for Android version 2.2 is free and available in the Android Market now.

Casio's rough-and-tumble G'zOne Commando smartphone is getting a treat today, as Verizon Wireless has finally released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the hardy device. The upgrade offers all of the usual Gingerbread enhancements, and includes fixes for the proximity sensor and reduced lag when operating the phone. Users should get a notification on their phones when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

Vodafone says iPhone 4S is coming soon

Vodafone UK has followed Three's lead in letting its customers know that Apple's new iPhone 4S smartphone will be headed to its network soon as well. Customers can sign up for more information at Vodafone's website. The iPhone 4S is due to hit shelves on October 14, with pre-orders beginning on October 7. It features a faster processor, a better camera, and Apple's new iOS 5 operating system.

Apple iPhone 4S smartphone to be carried by KDDI in Japan

Apple has announced that Japanese carrier KDDI will offer the new iPhone 4S when it is launched later this month. Prior to this, Softbank was the only carrier in Japan that offered the iPhone. Softbank has announced it will offer the iPhone 4S on October 14, but KDDI has not revealed an exact launch date. KDDI is Japan's second-largest carrier, while Softbank sits in the number three slot. DoCoMo is the country's largest carrier, claiming half of the 120 million cellphone users in Japan.

FCC to require GPS in all phones by 2018

The Federal Communications Commission has published a new rule that mandates all cellphones support true GPS positioning by the year 2018. Many smartphones already have GPS chips inside of them today, but the vast majority of feature phones still rely on cell tower triangulation for location services.

CTIA challenges San Francisco's SAR rating law
