South Korea now has over 20 million smartphone users Posted: 30 Oct 2011 01:18 PM PDT In a statement from South Korea's telecom regulator, the number of smartphone users in South Korea has surpassed 20 million. According to data released by the Korea Communications Commission, 40% of the Korea's citizens have smartphones in use. The data also showed that 10 million users are on SK Telecom Co., the leading mobile service provider in the country, another 6.8 million with KT Corp., and 3.3 million with LG Uplus Corporation. Siri hacked onto Apple iPhone 4 and iPod touch Posted: 30 Oct 2011 12:29 PM PDT It looks like our little friend Siri has escaped from jail and has been seen running on Apple iPhone 4 and 4th generation iPod touch devices that have been jailbroken. Via Twitter, developers @stroughtonsmith and @chpwn announced the authorization hack that allows Siri to run on older model iPhones and iPods. GameStop to offer Android tablets Posted: 29 Oct 2011 02:36 PM PDT GameStop announced on Friday that it will move into the tablet selling business. The gaming retailer said it will offer Google Android tablets from Samsung, Acer, and ASUS in 200 of its store this holiday season as part of a pilot program. Each tablet will come with seven free games with links to the Android Market and GameStop's own mobile app store, which is called Kongregate Arcade. GameStop has also developed a wireless controller, which will be sold as an accessory for $39. The company expects to expand the tablet program if it proves successful. Read the full story here.

Beluga was purchased by Facebook earlier this year and provides the technology behind Facebook's own Messenger app for Android, iOS, and BlackBerry smartphones. Samsung Focus S, Focus Flash hit AT&T on November 6 Posted: 28 Oct 2011 12:42 PM PDT The Focus S and Focus Flash, the two new Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones from Samsung, will be hitting AT&T's network on November 6, according to the carrier's official Facebook page. The Focus S will cost $199.99 on-contract, while the Focus Flash will go for a much lower $49.99 with a new two-year agreement. The Focus S features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and a 1.4GHz processor, while the Focus Flash makes do with a 3.7-inch screen and a 1GHz chip. Read the full story here.

RIM releases BlackBerry Messenger 6.0.1 with connected app improvements Posted: 28 Oct 2011 12:11 PM PDT RIM has updated its BlackBerry Messenger app for BlackBerry smartphones to version 6.0.1. The update offers an easier way to find BBM-connected apps, as users can now search for them directly from the BBM app. Users can also share BBM app content with their BBM contacts, as well as invite BBM 5.0 users to use connected apps. Microsoft delivers Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update to 100 percent of eligible phones Posted: 28 Oct 2011 09:16 AM PDT Microsoft has announced that with the rollout of the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango upgrade to the LG Optimus 7 smartphone for Telefonica in Spain and the Samsung Omnia 7 on Deutsche Telekom, it has now delivered the upgrade to 100 percent of eligible devices. Microsoft started rolling out the upgrade exactly one month ago, on September 27.
