Microsoft adding Exchange access to Hotmail

According to CNET, Microsoft is going to add Exchange Activesync support to Hotmail on Monday, August 30. Exchange offers push support for email, which most smartphones support. There's no word of calendar or contact synchronization support yet, but that could be coming in the future.

Google: Over 1,000,000 calls placed from Gmail in last 24 hours

Yesterday Google announced a new Gmail feature that lets users place calls from their Gmail accounts. Google Voice and Gmail users can call the U.S. and Canada for free (for now), and other countries at low rates. Today, Google announced that, in the last 24 hours, over 1,000,000 calls have already been made from the new service. RIM offers India industry forum to settle BlackBerry encryption dispute

Today RIM took its next step in responding to India's requests for full access to its BlackBerry encrypted emails. RIM offered an industry forum, which it hopes will focus on meeting both India's security needs, and the privacy and security of RIM's customers. The offer comes just six days ahead of India's final decision on whether RIM will be able to continue to operate in the country.

HTC rebukes Apple patent lawsuit with counterclaim

The legal battle between Apple and HTC rages on. HTC has responded, again, to a lawsuit alleging that it is infringing on Apple patents. HTC filed a counterclaim document with the U.S. District Court of Delaware stating that there's a lack of information "to form a belief as to the truth" of the patent infringement allegations.

Cricket purchases remaining share of LCW for $3.2 million

Today Cricket announced that it has "completed the acquisition of all the remaining third party membership interests in its joint venture lCW Wireless, LLC." Cricket paid $3.2 million in cash for the remainder of LCW, which was formed as a joint venture between Cricket, WLPCS Management, and CSM Wireless in 2006. LCW provides Cricket's wireless service and holds Federal Communications Commission (FCC) licenses that cover over 3 million POPs in Eugene, Portland, and Salem, Oregon. Cricket is a wholly owned subsidiary of Leap Wireless International.

Adobe Flash 10.1 for Verizon Motorola DROID landing today

Today Verizon Wireless issued an email saying that there is a new update being pushed out to the Motorola DROID over the air. The update includes Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support, which can be downloaded from the Android Market for free. To manually check for updates on your DROID, go to 'Settings' and then select 'Check for updates.'

Green Nokia N8 smartphone will be exclusive to Vodafone U.K. customers at launch

Today Vodafone U.K. announced that it will be the exclusive provider of the green colored Nokia N8 when it launches soon. Vodafone U.K. announced in May that it would offer the N8, but hasn't yet provided details on pricing or availability. The N8 offers a 12 megapixel camera, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a gamut of social networking features. For more information check out our hands on with the Nokia N8.

Rogers launches Nokia 6700 Slide S60 smartphone

Today Rogers posted the availability of the Nokia 6700 Slide on its website. The 6700 Slide will cost $79.99 with a 3-year Rogers contract. The 6700 Slide offers a 2.2-inch screen, a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED flash, and an FM radio. The 6700 Slide was originally announced by Nokia in November 2009.

Telenav launches OnMyWay app for iPhone, Android smartphones

Today Telenav launched its free OnMyWay application, already available for Blackberry devices, for the iPhone and Android smartphones. The app works like this: if you're headed to a meeting and are stuck in traffic, it will automatically send those you're expected to meet with an email or SMS informing them of your delay and your estimated time of arrival.
