Apple may stop iPhone jailbreaking with patent

Apple applied for a patent in February 2009 titled "Systems and Methods for Identifying Unauthorized users." The patent has recently been published, and identifies a number of ways to restrict the use of an iPhone should Apple detect a user has been hacking or jailbreaking the device. The patent also details uses for locking the iPhone if an unauthorized user is detected.

HTC Desire Android 2.2 Froyo update rolling out to Vodafone users now

Our own Russell Jefferies has confirmed that the Android 2.2 Froyo update for Vodafone's HTC Desire is now rolling out, free of Vodafone branded applications. The update for the HTC Desire was originally said to launch "7-10 days" from August 10th, so it's just a few days late. Samsung reveals I5801 Galaxy 3, I5503 Galaxy 5 Android smartphones

Samsung has announced two new Android smartphones, the I5801 Galaxy 3 and the I5503 Galaxy 5. The devices offer a less powerful feature set than the Galaxy S series and are launching in India.

Samsung B7350 Omnia Pro 4 Windows Phone 6.5 smartphone lands in Germany

The Samsung Omnia Pro 4, a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard that was announced on June 15, is launching in Germany. The device will cost 300 EUR ($381), but will not support the newer Windows Phone 7 operating system due out later this year. Other features include a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 2.62-inch display, WiFi, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and more.

Motorola stops DROID X Android 2.2 Froyo leak with cease and desist letter

Recently a website named My Droid World released an Android 2.2 Froyo build for the Motorola DROID X. The site claims that Motorola's senior director of information security, Richard Rushing, responded to the Froyo upgrade leak with a cease and desist letter, claiming that it is "Motorola Copyright Software." The site has since removed the Motorola DROID X Android 2.2 update.

Motorola CLIQ, CLIQ XT, BackFlip Android 2.1 updates delayed

In yet another setback for owners of Motorola's CLIQ and CLIQ XT for T-Mobile, and BackFlip for AT&T, Motorola announced on its support forums that the Android 2.1 updates for these smartphones would not be available until the late Q3 or early Q4 time frame. The Android 2.1 updates for these devices, which are still running Android 1.5, had been originally promised for Q2 of 2010.
