Cricket Sanyo Zio M6000 Android smartphone now available in stores

Today Cricket announced that its Sanyo Zio M6000 by Kyocera, an Android 1.6 powered smartphone, is now available in Cricket-owned stores. The Zio has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, 512MB of memory, and more. The Zio costs $149.99 and is offered with Cricket's $55 all-inclusive Android service plan.

T-Mobile G2 HSPA+ Android smartphone with QWERTY keyboard possibly revealed

Shots of the upcoming T-Mobile G2 Android powered smartphone (the first HSPA+ smartphone) may have been revealed. Engadget exposed the photos, which show a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard, an optical trackpad, and more.

RIM BlackPad tablet to possibly use custom QNX OS, not BlackBerry OS

RIM is planning to use a custom operating system, developed by QNX Software Systems, in its upcoming tablet, Bloomberg is reporting. RIM bought QNX Software Systems in April 2009, and some of QNX Software Systems' other clients include BMW, Cisco, GE. Even the Army used QNX Software in its Crusher tank. It's rumored that the device will be called the BlackPad, and RIM registered BlackPad.com late last month.

HP webOS tablet due out in early 2011

During its third quarter earnings conference call yesterday, HP's Todd Bradley confirmed that HP plans to release a webOS tablet early next year. Specifically, Bradley said, "You'll see us with a Microsoft product out in the near future and a webOS-based product in early 2011." This statement falls in line with HP's earlier comments alluding to webOS based tablets and netbooks.

Orange U.K. offers Amsterdam, Samsung Libre C3300 touchscreen phones

Two new touchscreen phones, the Samsung Libre C3300 and Amsterdam have been added to Orange UK's Pay-As-You-Go line-up. Both phones offer a relatively basic feature set, but come at an affordable price.

Visa, Bank of America testing NFC cell phone payments in NYC

Beginning in September,and running through the rest of the year, Bank of America and Visa will begin testing a NFC mobile payment system in New York City that will allow customers to use their smartphones to make purchases using their Bank of America bank account. Visa will provide small chips, that can be installed in smartphones, and will allow customers to "bump" or wave their phones near payment devices to make a purchase. Neither company commented on how many people would be involved in the test market.

Nokia acquires mobile analytics service Motally

Today Nokia announced that it has acquired U.S. mobile analytics firm Motally Inc. Motally's software is used in app tracking and reporting, and was designed to allow developers to better design apps by studying how users interact with them. Nokia plans to adapt the service for Qt, Symbian, Meego, and Java developers, and will continue to serve Motally's customer base. The purchase price wasn't disclosed, and the transaction is expected to close during the third quarter of 2010.

BlackBerry Torch 9800 headed to Vodafone U.K.

Vodafone U.K. has said that it will offer RIM's latest smartphone, the BlackBerry Torch 9800. The Torch 9800 is RIM's first commercial device to offer the BlackBerry 6 operating system, and offers a touchscreen as well as a full hardware QWERTY keyboard, a 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, and more. Vodafone U.K. didn't provide details on how much the device would cost or when it would be available, but you can sign up for more information as it becomes available. BlackBerry App World 2.0 leaves beta, now available to everyone

The official version of BlackBerry App World 2.0 has left beta and is now available for everyone. RIM has added the option for developers to publish applications for both $0.99 and $1.99. BlackBerry App World 2.0 also supports credit card payments, top 25 categories for discovering new applications, QR barcode scanning, and BlackBerry ID. BlackBerry ID allows you to purchase apps on one BlackBerry and save them to your account so that you can install them on a different device later.
