Facebook Places now available on HTML5 devices Posted: 19 Aug 2010 04:50 PM PDT Last night Facebook announced its new Places client, which lets Facebook users share their current location with their friends. The Facebook app requires an update before the Places feature appears, but the service isn't working everywhere just yet. We tested it out in Philadelphia and received the message "This feature will be available in your region soon. Thank you for your patience." MySpace intros Apple iPad application for music video service Posted: 19 Aug 2010 08:10 AM PDT Today MySpace unveiled a new music video service that will run on both its website and on Apple's iPad. MySpace Music Romeo, as the new service is called, lets users search the MySpace music catalog to find a music video via genre or mood and then download songs or videos directly from Apple's iTunes. Patent for sending mobile photos, videos to 9-1-1 granted Posted: 19 Aug 2010 07:45 AM PDT PowerPhone Inc. has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for "Integrated Call Handler and E-Mail Systems and Methods." The patent is embodied in the company's new product, Incident Linked Multimedia, which allows callers to send multimedia images to 9-1-1 emergency call centers from their mobile phones. Mozilla Fennec 2 beta browser for Android, MeeGo coming this Fall Posted: 19 Aug 2010 07:02 AM PDT One of Mozilla's programmers, Matt Brucbeck, has posted some information on the upcoming Fennec 2 mobile browser. The browser, which has been available for Maemo devices, will launch in beta form for Android and Meego devices this fall. Fennec 2 sports Firefox Sync, find-in-page commands, link sharing, and multi-touch gestures. Mozilla is currently working out kinks with support for the Android Swype keyboard. RIAA and radio broadcasters push Congress for mandatory FM radios in mobile phones Posted: 19 Aug 2010 05:43 AM PDT The RIAA and the National Association of Broadcasters are pushing Congress to pass a bill, the Performance Rights Act, that would force manufacturers to place FM radios inside all mobile devices, such as phones. LG to include dual-core NVIDIA processor in Optimus smartphones Posted: 19 Aug 2010 05:36 AM PDT Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, LG confirmed that it will use NVIDIA dual-core processors in its Optimus smartphone family, due out later this year. The first U.S. phones to use NVIDIA Tegra processors were Microsoft's failed KIN devices. Most of the popular Android smartphones today use single core Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, although on Monday Qualcomm said that it plans to launch dual-core Snapdragon processors with a 1.5GHz clockspeed during the fourth quarter.
