Garmin sells $27M in phones during Q2 2010, below expectations

Garmin released its financial results for the second quarter of 2010 today. The company said that sales of its smartphone products contributed $27 million in revenue during the quarter, which was below the company's expectations. Garmin says it's working aggressively with T-Mobile and other carriers around the globe for appropriate positioning and pricing to remain competitive in the smartphone market.

Flash 10.1 beta hitting Motorola DROID on August 18th

According to an internal document passed around to Verizon Wireless employees, the Verizon Wireless Motorola DROID won't get the Adobe Flash Player 10.1 update until August 18th. The update will require another download on devices that have already been updated to Android 2.2.

HTC Desire Android smartphone now offered by Telus

Today TELUS in Canada announced that it will offer the Android-powered HTC Desire to its customers. The Desire runs Android 2.1, and has a 3.7-inch 800 x 480 pixel touchscreen display, as well as a 5 megapixel camera. PayPal Mobile app for Android gets updated

Online commerce company PayPal has released a new version of its Android application that includes "bump" technology that allows users to tap two devices together to exchange information and move money from one account to another. It also offers a "split the check" feature that lets users send a payback reminder to friends who owe you cash. The new application is now available for free in the Android Market.

Motorola DROID X for Verizon getting Android 2.2 Froyo update in "early September"

According to a Motorola employee on the company's support forum, the Motorola DROID X for Verizon Wireless is set to receive an Android 2.2 Froyo update in "early September." This was noted in a post about Exchange problems on the DROID X, and it seems that Motorola is giving out licenses for the Exchange by Touchdown application to make up for the shortcoming.

LG Cookie Lite coming soon to Orange UK

The LG Cookie Lite, launched in Korea as the LG Wink, has shown up on Orange UK's website and is listed as "coming soon." The entry-level Cookie Lite features a 2.4-inch touchscreen, a 1.3 megapixel camera, an FM radio, and only 2G connectivity. There's no word on pricing yet.
