Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.1 update coming in September Posted: 31 Aug 2010 04:45 AM PDT According to Sony Ericsson's official Twitter account for the U.K., the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 should be getting the Android 2.1 update next month. This could apply to the whole Xperia X10 family, including the Xperia X10 mini and the mini pro. However, it's unclear if the AT&T Xperia X10 will get the update at the same time. The official Tweet read: "We can only confirm that the upgrade to Android 2.1 is due for release before the end of September this year. We hope this helps." Read the full story here. |

RIM gives India "some access" to BlackBerry services, resolves shutdown threat Posted: 30 Aug 2010 09:33 AM PDT Just ahead of India's August 31 deadline to RIM, in which India asked for access to encrypted emails and BlackBerry Messenger messages (or it would ban BlackBerry services from the country), the two groups have reached an agreement. "[RIM] has given some access, which we will operationalize from September 1," an Indian government official told Reuters. "They will have to provide full access to all communications that go through India. They will have to set up a server in India," the official added. Google and Skype will be required to do the same. THe Epic 4G is an Android powered smartphone that's part of Samsung's Galaxy S family of devices. It sports a 1 GHz processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, support for Sprint's 4G WiMAX network, and a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Intel acquires Infineon's Wireless Solutions Business for $1.4 billion Posted: 30 Aug 2010 06:53 AM PDT Intel has purhcased chipmaker Infineon's Wireless Solutions Business, dubbed WLS, for $1.4 billion in cash, Intel confirmed today. WLS will operate as a standalone business, and builds on Intel's WiFi and 4G WiMAX offerings with Infineon's 3G technology, which Intel hopes will help it accelerate LTE. Intel expects to use Infineon's tech in its Intel Core processor laptops, Intel Atom devices, and smartphones, netbooks, tablets, and embedded computers. OmniVision outs OV9740 image sensor for smartphones, media devices Posted: 30 Aug 2010 06:32 AM PDT Today OmniVision announced its new 1/6.5-inch OV9740 system-on-a-chip (SOC) CMOS image sensor. OmniVision says the OV9740 is the first 720p HD SOC camera chip that meets Microsoft Office Communication and Skype video criteria, and it's capable of delivering HD video at 30 frames per second. The OV9740 was designed for mobile phones, smart phones, netbooks, notebooks, webcams, gaming consoles, portable media players, TVs, and set-top boxes.
