Samsung Fascinate for Verizon to feature Microsoft Bing search on Android

Earlier this evening at the Samsung Galaxy S U.S. launch event in New York, we noticed that the Samsung Fascinate, the Verizon version of the Galaxy S, was sporting a Microsoft Bing search application, the first we've ever seen on an Android smartphone. The devices destined for the other 3 carriers all offered only the standard Google search.

Samsung Galaxy S based Fascinate for Verizon Wireless features Blockbuster application

During the Samsung event in New York City today, we had a quick moment to check out the Verizon Wireless Samsung Fascinate with PC Mag's Sascha Segan. The phone had a Blockbuster application running in the background, although there wasn't one in the main menu. We suspect this is an application that will be launched at a later date.

Tonight in New York City, Samsung announced that its latest Galaxy S family of smartphones will all come with a Media Hub application that will provide movie and TV content in HD quality. The Samsung Galaxy S family in the U.S. includes the T-Mobile Vibrant, Verizon Wireless Fascinate, AT&T Captivate, Sprint Epic 4G, and U.S. Cellular Galaxy S.

U.S. Samsung Galaxy S family to be upgraded to Android 2.2

At an event in New York City tonight, Samsung announced that its latest U.S. Galaxy S smartphone family, including the T-Mobile Vibrant, Verizon Wireless Fascinate, AT&T Captivate, Sprint Epic 4G, and U.S. Cellular Galaxy S will all be upgraded to Android 2.2 at some point. Samsung didn't give a specific date.

Hulu launches Hulu Plus subscription site, supports Apple iPad, iPhone

Today Hulu officially launched its Hulu Plus subscription service to a small invitation-only group of its customers. The subscription costs $9.99 per month and provides content from ABC, Fox, NBC. It is supported on the Apple iPad and on iPhones, as well as on some Samsung Blu-ray products. AP claims that Hulu will also add support for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft XBOX 360 next year.

Verizon Wireless announces Pantech Jest QWERTY slider phone

Verizon Wireless and Pantech today announced the Jest, a QWERTY slider phone that's currently free if you purchase it through Verizon Wireless' website. It will begin retailing in stores on July 5th for $69.99 with a 2-year contract.

Apple iPhone 4 now available in AT&T stores, still causing lines

If you weren't able to get your hands on an iPhone during its initial launch, the device is now available in AT&T stores. However, it appears that its popularity is still causing shortages and long lines. CNET reported that one AT&T store in New York City had a 60 person line and had already sold out of the device by 7:30am.

Sprint's CEO reports "spot shortages" of HTC EVO 4G WiMAX smartphone

Sprint's CEO, Dan Hesse, told The Wall Street Journal that his company has seen "spot shortages," of the HTC EVO 4G smartphone in some of its retail stores. "The fundamental reason is the device is more popular than we had anticipated," Hesse said, noting that Sprint is doing its best to increase its HTC EVO 4G supply.

Microsoft updating Kin phones this summer

Microsoft is planning to update its Kin phones this summer, according to posts on a Microsoft forum. It's unclear what will be included in the update, but there's speculation that it will include the ability to reply and retweet using the Twitter client, and fix random shutdowns. Other complaints have included the lack of additional applications, such as chat clients and YouTube.

AT&T's 3G Network in New York City gets a boost

AT&T has given a boost to its 3G voice and data network in New York City. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx have all received an update to improve 3G performance for both data and voice. "Our goal is pretty simple: in the city that never sleeps, we're working 24/7 to make sure our customers have a great experience every time they make a call, check e-mail, download a song or video, or surf the Internet on their AT&T device," said Tom DeVito, vice president and general manger for AT&T in NY and NJ. An AT&T WiFi hot zone is also now available in Times Square.

Possible class-action lawsuit brewing against Apple

A California law firm called Kershaw, Cutter, & Ratinoff, LLP is seeking out early iPhone 4 owners who "recently purchased the new iPhone and have experienced poor reception quality, dropped calls, and weak signals," which could result in a class-action lawsuit against Apple if there's enough upset owners willing to speak with the firm. Google updates Google Docs for Android, Apple iPhone, and iPad

Google has announced that it has updated its Google Docs client for Android, as well as for the Apple iPhone and the iPad. Google Docs for mobile browsers now allows you to view PDFs, PowerPoint files (.ppt), and Microsoft Word .doc and .docx files that you've uploaded to your Google Docs account. The application allows you to quickly flip between multiple pages and supports pinch-to-zoom. To use it, simply visit docs.google.com.

Virgin Mobile has announced that it is now offering the Novatel MiFi 2200 to its Broadband2Go prepaid customers. The device runs on Sprint's 3G network and is available in Best Buy and RadioShack retail stores, or online from BestBuy.com, Walmart.com, and VirginMobileUSA.com. Google updates Nexus One to Android 2.2 Froyo

Google has announced that, as of yesterday, it has begun to roll out Android 2.2 (Froyo) to Nexus One users. The over the air update features Wi-Fi hotspot sharing, Adobe flash support, and much faster application speeds. Users will be notified of the update through the phone's notification bar, and Google expects most Nexus One users to receive the update by the end of the week.
