Sprint updates HTC EVO 4G Android smartphone

Sprint has released an over-the-air (OTA) update, 1.47.651.1, for the newly launched HTC EVO 4G smartphone. The update can be applied OTA or manually and is expected to improve WiFi performance and Exchange syncing. For those wanting to update manually, head to the phone's settings to do a system update check. Update: Sprint has since pulled the update after some users reported that it bricked their phones.

Verizon drops pricing on KIN ONE and KIN TWO Windows Phones

Verizon has slashed its pricing on its Microsoft Windows Phones, the KIN ONE and the KIN TWO. The social network-centric devices are now available for almost half of their original launch pricing; the KIN TWO has dropped from $99.99 to $49.99 and the KIN ONE is now $29.99, down from $49.99. Both devices require a two-year service agreement.

Amazon Kindle for Android now available

Amazon Kindle for Android, an e-book reader application, is now available from the Android Market. The app runs on devices with Android 1.6 OS or later and offers users access to up to 620,000 books. The software is free and available for download now.

Verizon: HTC DROID Incredible not an end of life device

There have been rumors floating around that the HTC DROID Incredible is being phased out by Verizon Wireless for the Motorola DROID X. A Verizon Wireless spokesperson emailed us and that that this is not true, is simply a rumor, and that Verizon Wireless is not phasing out the HTC DROID Incredible.

In it, we give DLNA another shot, check out some media sharing functions, and test out Moto's social media and news apps. We also go over visual voicemail and a few other call related functions. ABI Research: More than 55 million smartphones were shipped in Q1 2010

ABI Research has released a new report that says just over 55 million smartphones were shipped, globally, during the first quarter of 2010. That was roughly 1 million less than during the fourth quarter of 2009. "Normally we would see a much greater decline in shipments int he first quarter; the fact that the drop was so relatively small highlights the continuing dynamic growth of the smartphone market," ABI senior analyst Michael Morgan said.

Amazon updates iOS Kindle app with audio and video support

Amazon has announced an update for iOS powered devices including the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, which allows the Kindle application to play both audio and video clips. The first books that use the technology include "Rick Steves' London" by Rick Steves and "Together We Cannot Fail" by Terry Golway. Rick Steves provides Kindle readers with a walking tour of some of the sites of London, and audio/video are embedded inside the book, for example. More titles are expected to take advantage of this feature in the future.

Nokia mocks Apple's iPhone 4 antenna issues with gripping E72 tutorial

Nokia, playing off of Apple's recent iPhone 4 antenna issues, has a new page up titled "How do you hold your Nokia?" The site goes over a few popular ways that E72 owners can hold their E72 with one final point: that you can hold the device any way you want without worrying about hurting your reception. It's a funny post that adds a bit of satire to Steve Jobs' suggestion that those with iPhone 4 issues were holding their phones wrong.

U.S. Cellular to sell Samsung Galaxy S Android powered smartphone

U.S. Cellular announced today that it will sell the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone this fall. The Galaxy S is an Android 2.1 powered device with a host of premium features, including a large 4-inch Super AMOLED display.

Apple sells 1.7 million iPhone 4 smartphones in first 3 days

Today Apple announced that more than 1.7 million new iPhone 4 smartphones have been sold in its first three days of retail availability, which presumably includes the pre-orders that were queued up earlier this month. The Apple iPhone 4 is currently only being offered in the USA by AT&T, but is being offered by many other carriers worldwide, including Orange, Vodafone, O2, and T-Mobile in the UK.

In May, Amazon announced that Kindle for Android would be available this summer. Today, Samsung and T-Mobile announced the Samsung Vibrant, an Android 2.1 device that's expected to launch on July 21. In the launch materials, Samsung detailed that the Vibrant will launch with Kindle for Android, revealing that the service will likely be available by July.
