Microsoft boots pornography from Windows Marketplace

Microsoft has outlined the rules for its new Windows Marketplace for Windows Phone 7 in a 28-page PDF document. Content that's not allowed includes anything with sex/nudity, anything that generally falls under the category of pornography, or apps that depict or suggest prostitution. Illegal activities, such as games and apps that promote illegal gambling or drugs, are also not allowed. Microsoft is also putting its foot down on violent games. Applications with "realistic or gratuitous violence," in it will also be rejected.

NTT DOCOMO testing LTE network in Tokyo for December commercial launch

Vodafone UK says Apple iPhone 4 is "coming soon" to its network

Today Apple announced iOS 4, the rebranded name of its iPhone OS 4. It will issue an update for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the iPod Touch. Apple said that some of the features will not be fully supported on the iPhone 3G. iOS 4 is the version of Apple's OS that will launch natively on the iPhone 4 that was announced today.

HP introduces ePrint for printing from phones, other email capable devices

Today HP announced ePrint, a new category of printing solutions that lets any email capable device to print from any HP ePrint enabled printer, no matter where it is. ePrint capable printers start at $99 and to print, users simply have to send an email to the printer. That means you can use smartphones or personal media players that are connected and able to send emails. Android owners can also use HP iPrint Photo for printing wirelessly to HP inkjet printers that run on WiFi networks.

Apple FaceTime for iPhone 4 offers two-way video chat over WiFi

Today Apple announced FaceTime, a new application for the newly announced iPhone 4 that will let iPhone 4 owners chat with one another using video chat. It requires that both iPhone 4 users are on a WiFi network and won't run over 3G just yet. However, Apple did point out some of its compelling uses, such as allowing two deaf people to communicate using sign language. The service can use either the iPhone 4's forward facing camera, or its 5 megapixel rear one. It will launch with the phone on June 24th.

Apple renames iPhone OS 4 to iOS4

Today Apple revealed that it was changing the name of its iPhone OS to better represent the fact that it works on the iPad as well as the iPhone and iPod touch. The new name is iOS4, and it features the new multitasking, folder support, and iAd advertising abilities Apple demonstrated earlier in the year. It will be available on the new iPhone 4 that Apple just announced and will be available for the iPhone 3GS on June 21.

Qik pulls video chat client on Sprint HTC EVO 4G smartphone

Qik, the video chatting service used by Sprint's newly available HTC EVO 4G smartphone, has been pulled according to the company's blog. The company claims that because of the high demand of its video service on the new EVO 4G, an "unprecedented 20x the amount of workload on our servers" has caused them to remove the client from the Android market until the capacity issue can be dealt with.

Today HTC announced that it has purchased Abaxia, a software firm that creates custom interfaces for mobile operators and handset manufacturers around the globe. The company was founded in 2001 and works to promote and monetize manufacturers and operator software services on smartphones. "HTC and Abaxia have worked closely together in the past and our businesses complement each other well. We're excited to be joining such a significant and emerging mobile brand," Abaxia CEO Cedric Mangaud said.

Sprint HTC EVO 4G WiMAX smartphone breaks launch day sales records

Today Sprint said that sales of the HTC EVO 4G on Friday marked the largest quantity of a single phone, sold in a single day, ever for Sprint. Sprint says the Samsung Instinct and the Palm Pre also once held that record. While Sprint didn't give a specific number of devices sold, it did say that the number of HTC EVO 4G phones sold on Friday was three times the amount of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre phones sold during their first three days on the market, combined.
