Google Maps for BlackBerry now offers Biking directions, search and share

Today Google announced that Google Maps 4.2 for BlackBerry now provides directions for bicyclists. You can choose to take bike-only trails, bike lanes, or good biking roads without a dedicated lane. Just be sure to look both ways before crossing the road. The new search and share features let you view reviews of destinations, such as restaurants, and share places on a map by email or text message. The same features launched on Android in early May.

Swiss firm files patent infringement lawsuit against AT&T and T-Mobile USA

A Swiss firm named Starhome GmbH has filed patent infringement suits against both T-Mobile USA and AT&T claiming that both infringed on patents issued in 2005 and 2007 that involve short codes.

RadioShack doors opening at 6am for Sprint HTC EVO 4G

RadioShack will open its doors to Sprint HTC EVO 4G preorder customers on June 4th at 6am. The company will have as many as 1,600 stores open, and will be offering a 15 percent discount to those who preordered the phone.

Nokia C3 S40 smartphone now available in U.K. and Indonesia

Today Nokia announced that its S40 powered QWERTY phone, the C3, is now available in Indonesia and the United Kingdom. The device provides easy access to Facebook and Twitter, has a 2.4-inch display, a 2 megapixel camera, and can support up to 8GB of storage. In early May we reported that the C3 would be heading to Vodafone U.K. in June, although it isn't yet listed on the carrier's website.

Infected Samsung Wave 1GB cards limited to initial German production run

Samsung's HQ in Seoul, South Korea has informed us that it has determined that only the initial production run of Samsung S8500 Wave devices for the German market were shipped with infected 1GB microSD memory cards. Future shipments, and those sent to other markets, should be virus free.

Nokia Eco Profiles inform owners of phone's energy use, greenhouse gas emissions

Today Nokia announced its new Eco Profiles initiative. The plan will provide every new device with information on the phone's energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Eco Profiles are available for the Nokia X2, C3, and C6 phones. Nokia has reduced the environmental impact from its devices up to 65 percent in the past 10 years.

Thumbplay music service now on Apple iPhone

Thumbplay has announced the availability of its Thumbplay Music application for the iPhone. The software, available in the iPhone App Store, provides access to millions of on-demand subscription music songs. This service has already been available on BlackBerry and Android phones. The service comes with a three day trial but otherwise costs $9.99 per month.

Motorola FLIPOUT Android smartphone with swiveling keyboard announced

Today Motorola officially announced the new FLIPOUT smartphone, an Android 2.1 powered device that runs MOTOBLUR and has a unique pivoting keyboard that swings out from under the display. The 7.2Mbps HSDPA device will be available in certain regions of the world starting in the second quarter of 2010.
