Oracle amends Android damages complaint to $2 billion

In the ongoing case between Oracle and Google over alleged patent infringement in the Android operating system, Oracle has lowered its damages request to $2 billion. Previously, Oracle was asking for upwards of $6.1 billion in its complaint.

Justice Department and AT&T head to court on February 13 for antitrust trial

The judge presiding over the Justice Department's case to block AT&T's purchase of T-Mobile has set February 13 as the date that the trial will begin. The two parties were not able to come to an agreeable resolution today in a preliminary meeting, forcing the case to go to trial.

Verizon CEO: AT&T purchase of T-Mobile "had to occur"

Verizon Communications, the parent company of Verizon Wireless, has been fairly silent in the debate over whether or not AT&T should be allowed to purchase T-Mobile USA. Nevertheless, CEO Lowell McAdam has now come out and said that the merger "had to occur," and that the government needs to find an alternative means of providing spectrum if it does block the purchase.

Motorola ELECTRIFY available online from U.S. Cellular tonight, stores on Monday

U.S. Cellular has announced that the Motorola ELECTRIFY, its answer to Sprint's PHOTON 4G, will be available for purchase at midnight tonight from the carrier's online store. Those who prefer to open physical doors when they buy things will have to wait until Monday, September 26 to purchase the smartphone in stores. The ELECTRIFY will set you back $199.99, after rebate, with a new two-year contract.

Many Google Nexus S 4G users won't see Wallet update until Friday

Though Google announced with great fanfare that the Nexus S 4G smartphone for Sprint would be getting updated with Google Wallet on Monday, many users have yet to receive the upgrade on their phones. For some reason or another, the update has been delayed for a number users, and Google has confirmed that it will not reach all users until Friday evening. Google had initially expected the update to be completed by end of day today. Anxious users will just have to be patient for another couple of days before they can start tapping their phones like mad when purchasing things.

Isis to work with Android smartphones in face of Google Wallet

Microsoft promises Windows Phone Mango updates coming in next week or two

Microsoft has revealed that the long awaited roll-out of the Windows Phone Mango update for existing devices will begin in the next week or two. The company did not pin an exact date as to when users can expect it, nor did it say what models or manufacturers would get it first. Mango brings a number of improvements to the Windows Phone platform, including multitasking and live tile support for third-party apps. As usual, Microsoft recommends that users stay away from unofficial updates, as they can cause issues with phones.

Leap Wireless says that 60 percent of new subscribers purchase smartphones

Adobe Flash Player 11, AIR 3 to feature 3D games on mobile devices

HTC DROID Incredible 2 updated to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread

Verizon Wireless has released the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the HTC DROID Incredible 2. The update weighs in at 32MB, and includes fixes for email synchronization, the Visual Voicemail app, sending/receiving messages while roaming, and greater control over data roaming settings. There is no mention of support for Google Talk video chat, so it seems possible that feature has been omitted. Users should receive a notification on their phones when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.
