HTC Raider smartphone sports 4.5-inch display, LTE connectivity

HTC has just announced the Raider, a device that looks to be HTC's answer to the LG Optimus LTE. The Raider sports a 4.5-inch screen along with 4G LTE connectivity.

HTC Rhyme headed exclusively to O2 in the UK on October 17

The HTC Rhyme just had its grand reveal in the U.S., and will be able available here later this month. Fans of glowing dongles in the UK will have to wait a few more weeks, though, as it is set to debut on O2 UK on October 17. O2 has exclusive rights to the Rhyme, and will be offering it in the same plum color as Verizon Wireless. The carrier did not say whether or not it would be including the dock, tangle-free headphones, and charm accessories like Verizon Wireless is. Pricing should be revealed once we get closer to the launch date.

T-Mobile puts all of its smartphones on sale for one day this Saturday

T-Mobile users might be sad that the carrier won't be getting the iPhone 5 when it is released, but they shouldn't fret too much, as the carrier has announced a one-day sale on all of its smartphones for this weekend. On Saturday, September 24, all T-Mobile smartphones will be on sale for $99.99 or less with a new two-year agreement. That includes the HTC Sensation 4G, T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide, the regularly-overpriced BlackBerry Bold 9900, and even the T-Mobile G-Slate tablet.

Verizon expands 4G LTE coverage to more markets on October 20

It's that time of the month again when Verizon Wireless announces the next round of cities and towns to get blessed with 4G LTE service. This go around, the areas to get the faster wireless service include Sioux City, Iowa; Buffalo/Niagara, N.Y.; Daytona Beach, Fla.; Metro Birmingham, Ala.; and Modesto and Stockton Calif. Verizon will also expand its LTE coverage in Los Angeles and San Diego, Calif.; Fort Myers, Fla.; and Greater Erie, Pa. The upgrades are set to occur on October 20. Verizon may announce more markets before that date rolls around, as has been its habit in recent months.

AT&T debuts new messaging plans for global travelers

AT&T has announced two new text messaging plans for global travelers who are roaming on other networks. The Global Messaging 200 plan allows users to send 200 messages for $30 per month, while the Global Messaging 500 plan offers 500 messages for $50 per month. Both plans cover text, picture, video, and instant messages. The regular international per-message rate is $0.50 for each instant or text message, and $1.30 each for picture and video messages.

Instagram gets bumped up to version 2.0, Android users still left in the cold

Instagram, the hippest photo app available for the iPhone, has been updated to version 2.0 today. The upgrade offers a number of new features and performance enhancements, including higher-resolution images. Unfortunately, Android users are still left with sad faces, as Instagram continues to be iPhone-only.

HP plans to cut as many as 525 employees from webOS division

All Things D is reporting information obtained from sources within HP that the computer manufacturer intends to cut as many as 525 employees from its webOS division. HP made the decision to discontinue webOS hardware development last month, and is folding the software division into another part of the company.

Samsung said to be open-sourcing bada to outside developers

Foursquare adds lists support to iPhone app

Foursquare has updated its iPhone app today to add support for the Lists function that recently debuted on foursquare.com. Users can now access and manage their Lists of places to visit from their iPhone or iPod touch. You can also see public lists in your vicinity that other users have created. The new iOS app is available in iTunes now, while the Android app will get Lists support later in the week. Foursquare says other platforms will be updated in the near future.

HTC Rhyme (Verizon) smartphone hands-on impressions and video

LG Optimus Black available in white in the Great White North

Thus far, LG's Optimus Black smartphone has been available from Canadian carrier Telus in its namesake black color scheme. Ironically, it now seems that the Black will, with some irony, be available in white in the near future as well. Aside from landing on the opposite end of the color spectrum, the white Black will feature the same specifications as its darker brother, including the 4-inch, 700 nit NOVA display and 1GHz processor. Telus customers can expect to see the white version of the Optimus Black hit shelves soon for free on a new three-year contract.
