Sprint delays launch of BlackBerry Curve 9350 until October

When Sprint officially announced that it would be carrying the new BlackBerry Curve 9350 smartphone, it said that the phone would be available for purchase today, September 9. Well, it looks like there has been a snag in those plans, as the carrier has confirmed that the launch of the Curve 9350 has been delayed, and it doesn't expect to make it available for until sometime in October.

Google releases Google Music webapp for iOS4 devices

Google's Music Beta, which allows users to upload up to 20,000 tracks to the cloud and then access them from any computer, has been less than easy to enjoy for iOS users, since the website was formatted for a desktop browser.. Android users have had the luxury of a native Google Music app since the service was launched, but iOS users have not had that option. Today, Google released an HTML5-powered webapp for Google Music specifically for iOS4 users, so they can play music from their Google Music account on their iPhones or iPads.

Google Maps for Android updated to version 5.10

Google has issued an update to the Google Maps app for Android smartphones. The update bumps the version number up to 5.10, and adds two new features. The map will now display Places that you have rated four or five stars, and you can now attach photos to reviews of Places. The new version of Google Maps is available in the Android Market now.

LG lays off 30 percent of overseas staff from mobile division

A report from the Korea Economic Daily says that LG has laid off as much as 30 percent of the staff in its overseas mobile division. The cuts come after a number of quarters where the mobile arm of LG has lost money.

HTC claims to have paid for patents acquired from Google

Yesterday it was learned that HTC filed another lawsuit against Apple, but this time it was citing infringements on patents that it acquired from Google. What was unclear was how HTC got the patents from Google. HTC said today that it bought them from Google.

AT&T has announced that it will be carrying the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY beginning September 18. Known as the Xperia PLAY 4G when it hits AT&T, it is the same basic phone as released for Verizon Wireless earlier this year, though it features Sony Ericsson's custom interface on top of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which was lacking from the Verizon Wireless model.

Apple moves to ban sales of Samsung smartphones in Japan
