RIM launches new BlackBerry Curve smartphones with BlackBerry 7 OS

After announcing updates to the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Torch families of smartphones earlier this month, RIM has finally announced the new versions of the BlackBerry Curve line of entry-level smartphones. The new BlackBerry Curve 9350, 9360, and 9370 feature an updated industrial design and the new BlackBerry 7 OS.

Verizon restructures family plans, family data around the corner?

Verizon Wireless has implemented a new billing method today that the carrier claims will make it easier for customers to understand the charges related to their family plans. The new bills remove the individual data plan charges from each line on the family plan and lump them together in one place on the bill. This sets up Verizon to deploy the family data packages that it has promised were coming rather nicely.

Sprint offers pay-as-you-go data plans for HTC EVO View 4G tablet

Sprint has announced a new option for data service for owners of the HTC EVO View 4G Android tablet. In addition to the traditional, contracted monthly plans, buyers can now opt for data on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

HP Pre 3 will not hit U.S. shelves, will get discounted in Europe

According to PC Mag, the HP Pre 3 will become the Pre-3-to-never-be, in the U.S. at least. The computer giant has said that the Pre 3 will not make it Stateside, and will be significantly discounted in the European markets where it has already gone on sale.

Evernote for iOS updated with rich text support, password security

Popular note-taking service Evernote has updated its iOS app for the iPhone and iPad with a number of new features that bring it to parity with the Windows Phone and Android versions of the app. Most notably, the Evernote app for iOS now supports rich text editing and password security options.

Best Buy offering Apple iPhone 3GS for free today

Best Buy is featuring a one-day-only special on the Apple iPhone 3GS, offering it for free with a new two-year contract with AT&T. It's not often that you can get an iPhone of any sort without laying down cash at the time of purchase, so this special is a bit out of the ordinary. Could Best Buy be clearing some stock for something new that might be coming out soon? Probably. Just a word of warning though, two years is a long time to be stuck with a smartphone from 2009 that is already over two years old.

Verizon's 4G LTE rollout continues on September 15

Despite blanketing half of the U.S. population with LTE already, Verizon Wireless isn't resting on its laurels just yet. The carrier has announced that it will activate 4G LTE services in more markets on September 15. New markets receiving LTE service include Bloomington/Normal, Champaign/Urbana, Rockford, Springfield, and Quad Cities, Ill.; Iowa City, Iowa; Moorhead, Minn.; Fargo, N.D.; and Canton, Lima, and Mansfield, Ohio, while the Cleveland, Ohio area will get expanded coverage.

Samsung Admire smartphone now available from MetroPCS

Less that two weeks after announcing that it would be carrying the Samsung Admire, MetroPCS has put the entry-level smartphone up for sale. The Samsung Admire features a 3.5-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) display and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. You can pick up the Admire from MetroPCS stores or online for $129.99. It can be used with MetroPCS's unlimited plans, which start at $50 per month.

Verizon Wireless has announced a new service that offers streaming of TV shows and live sporting and news events to Verizon's 4G LTE-equipped smartphones. The simply-named Verizon Video service is an update to the older V CAST Video service, and offers content from major broadcast and cable channels, including ABC, NBC, CBS, MTV, Comedy Central, Animal Planet, CNBC, Disney Channel, ESPN, and others.

Microsoft courts disenfranchised webOS developers with free phones, training

It seems that Microsoft is quick to take advantage of the crop of webOS developers that have been left in the cold by HP's moves last week, as it has publicly announced extra attention and special support for developers that move from webOS to Microsoft's Windows Phone platform.
