T-Mobile to charge overages with lowest-tier data plan

Posted: 10 Aug 2011 02:34 PM PDT

T-Mobile has touted its data plans as unlimited for the past few months, since instead of charging overage fees when you reach a certain usage limit, the carrier would instead slow down your connection speeds until the next billing cycle. This policy applied to the minimum 200MB data plan all the way up to the high end 10GB plan. It looks like T-Mobile might be changing its tune with the 200MB plan, though, as a leaked document outlines plans to charge overage fees for those on that plan.

Kyocera Echo Gingerbread update gets rebooted, sans bricking this time

Posted: 10 Aug 2011 02:12 PM PDT

Ten days ago Sprint and Kyocera announced the roll-out of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the dual-screened Echo smartphone. Unfortunately, a number of issues immediately cropped up with the update, and the update left many Echos bricked and lifeless. Consequently, Sprint and Kyocera pulled the update and stopped seeding it. Here we are ten days later and Engadget has learned that Sprint has restarted the roll-out of the update today, without the bricking issues of course. The roll-out is expected to start slowly, and will eventually reach all users within the next few weeks. The question is, though, will you take the chance this go-around and risk your precious Echo getting bricked once again?

Video: Samsung Exhibit 4G (T-Mobile) video review

Posted: 10 Aug 2011 11:01 AM PDT

The Samsung Exhibit 4G is a mid-range Android smartphone with features that would have been top of the line only a year ago. It has a 3.5-inch, WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) display, and is powered by a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor. Refreshingly, it runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a pared-down version of Samsung's TouchWiz interface. This, coupled with the fast processor, allows the Exhibit 4G to perform admirably, especially for its target market. The 3 megapixel camera leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to speed of image capture and autofocus, but it is equipped with a LED flash for low-light pics. The Exhibit 4G is well-built and feels nice in the hand thanks to its soft touch coating on the back. You can pick up the Exhibit 4G from T-Mobile now for about $99.99 on-contract.
