RIM releases updated BlackBerry Torch 9810; 4G version headed to AT&T Posted: 03 Aug 2011 04:57 AM PDT RIM has announced a successor to its sliding BlackBerry Torch 9800 from last year: the logically named BlackBerry Torch 9810. U.S. Cellular users gain MobiTV options Posted: 02 Aug 2011 11:17 AM PDT Regional carrier U.S. Cellular has announced that subscribers can now take advantage of MobiTV, which offers streamed mobile video content from major providers like ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, The Disney Channel, MTV, and Comedy Central. Users can download the MobiTV app directly to their phones, and then access the video content. HP TouchPad webOS 3.0.2 software update impressions Posted: 02 Aug 2011 10:44 AM PDT The HP TouchPad got off to a rocky start with its launch at the beginning of last month, and many reviewers, myself included, noted a number of performance issues with the tablet. HP and its software team were apparently aware of the issues, but decided to release the TouchPad to the market warts and all. Executives promised an update would arrive that addressed many of the concerns that users and reviewers had, and despite not releasing it by the end of July as originally promised, the update did arrive last night and I have had some time to play with it on my TouchPad review unit. Android controls half of global smartphone market Posted: 02 Aug 2011 08:17 AM PDT According to the latest report on the global smartphone market by Canalys, Android is still in the lead, as it has been since Q4 2010, with almost 50 percent market share. T-Mobile offers pre-paid service at 7-Eleven stores Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:05 AM PDT T-Mobile is branching out its retail presence and has announced that 7-Eleven convenience stores will now be offering its pre-paid services. This month, 7-Eleven customers will be able to pick up the LG GS170 pre-paid phone for $29.99. It is a basic flip phone with a VGA camera and Bluetooth 2.1 support. Throughout the month of August, 7-Eleven will take 50 percent off the purchase price of the GS170 if you buy a $50 pre-paid card at the same time you buy the phone. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 hits German shelves this month Posted: 02 Aug 2011 06:09 AM PDT While those in Australia may be waiting to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet for an undetermined amount of time, Android fans in Germany will be able to exchange their Euros for it this month. The German version of the tablet is the same basic device that U.S. users have come to know, as it runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb and features a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor.
