T-Mobile has announced an interesting new promotion that can be taken advantage of only on June 18. In the name of Father's Day, the carrier will offer a free year of data services to anyone who signs a new two-year agreement on that day.

Swype 3.0 beta virtual keyboard for Android coming today

Swype has announced that the 3.0 beta version of its Swype virtual keyboard for Android smartphones will be available within a few hours. The new update features support for Android 3.x Honeycomb tablets as well as a new, more conventional horizontally laid out list of possible word matches. Swype also now includes prediction and correction for words manually tapped in with individual keys as well as those "swyped" in using a fingertip gesture. RIM investor wants to split up the dynamic duo of CEOs

An investor in RIM has petitioned the company for a shareholder voite on whether the company should force Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie to split up their currently shared roles as co-CEOs and charimen of the board. The investment firm says that current situation "contradicts the company's own statement, widely acknowledged best practice, and regulatory expectations." RIM asked shareholders to vote against the petition, citing that an independent board member, John Richardson, is already acting as the leader of the board.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for Motorola DROID 2 imminent

The promised update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the Motorola DROID 2 on Verizon Wireless must be right around the corner, as Verizon has posted an information page on its website detailing instructions on how to update the phone's software. It is likely that Verizon will roll out the update in phases, as it has done with previous updates. No word on when the update will begin to hit users, but it likely won't be too long now.

Evernote updates iOS app with Twitter, Facebook sharing

Popular note-taking service, Evernote, has released an update to its iOS app that adds social sharing features and better sorting options. Version 4.0.4 now lets users easily push notes to Twitter or Facebook so they can be shared with friends, and allows notebook and tag lists to be sorted alphabetically, or by note count. There is also a new landscape view of notes that displays more information at one time, and performance improvements throughout the app. Evernote for iOS is free, and available in the iTunes App Store now.

Ericsson launches mobile money system for European users

Ericsson has launched a new service in Europe called Ericsson Money that allows users to send and receive funds via their mobile phones. There is an eWallet function that allows users to load money onto a pre-paid MasterCard to make purchases with the Ericsson Money account. Ericsson looks to add features like bill payments and online shopping in the future. Ericsson Money is available to users in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Sweden. Ericsson has plans to branch out the service to more European countries in the future.

HTC Flyer tablet passes FCC certification with T-Mobile 3G support

The HTC Flyer tablet could be headed to T-Mobile, as an FCC filing has been revealed that shows a version with T-Mobile-compatible 3G bands. Everything else about the tablet is the same as other versions, save for the 1700MHz frequency support required for 3G data on T-Mobile. An official release date is unknown, though rumors have pegged the Flyer to hit T-Mobile on July 6.

Samsung T528 touch phone headed to TracFone
