Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on sale June 8 in NYC; free case for first 200 people

Samsung already announced that it will start selling its new Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android tablet at noon June 8 at Best Buy in Union Square New York City. But now Samsung has informed us that it will beoffering the first 200 customers a free leather case to go with their new tablets and that the first 50 customers will get VIP access to a Ne-Yo concert.

Updated Motorola DROID BIONIC for Verizon spotted in the wild

Photos of what appears to be the new version of Verizon's previously announced Motorola DROID BIONIC have been spotted in the wild. The new device, sometimes known as the Motorola Targa, offers an update body style with a redesigned back cover that features beveled edges.

The HTC Sensation is an Android 2.3.3 smartphone with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen display, and an 8 megapixel camera capable of recording full HD 1080p video at 30fps. In terms of user interfaces, it's running HTC's latest Sense 3.0 interface, which includes a rich lock screen and plenty of useful widgets for the phone's seven home screens.

ABI says Verizon activated 500k LTE devices in Q1

According to ABI Research, Verizon Wireless activated an impressive half million LTE-capable devices in the first quarter of 2011. ABI Research, as a result, says now that it believe that LTE adoption will pick up faster than initially expected, with more carriers launching LTE-based networks. ABI says that the United States is forcast to hit the 387 million mobile subscriber mark by 2016, and that it expects 85 million of those to be using LTE-capable devices.

Apple claims 425k iOS apps, sells 25mil iPads in first 14 months

Today at its 2011 WWDC developer event in San Francisco, Apple listed off a number of its mobile-related accomplishments. Walmart offers Apple iPhone 4 at $50 discount through end of June

Today Walmart announced that it will be selling Apple's 16GB iPhone 4 smartphone for $147 at some of its stores. The special pricing, which is a $50 discount off the typical $197 that Walmart charges, will be available until the end of June. Both the AT&T and Verizon versions of the iPhone 4, in both white and black color schemes, are available at this price when picked up with a new 2-year agreement. Walmart has yet to state which retail locations are counted as the "select stores" that will carry the iPhone 4 at this special price.

MetroPCS rolls out visual voicemail services

Today MetroPCS announced that it is now able to offer new visual voicemail services to its customers. MetroPCS will be offering the services packaged as Visual Voice Mail and Visual Voice Mail Plus on select devices. The "Plus" version adds voicemail to text transcription services in addition to the regular on-device playback features typically offered by carrier-based visual voicemail systems. Visual Voice Mail is available for free on plans costing $45 per month or more, while the Plus version will require an additional $5 monthly spend. The services are currently available on the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, LG Optimus M, and the Huawei Ascend with support for BlackBerry and BREW-based devices "coming soon."

This weekend while walking through a local shopping mall, we noticed that Radio Shack has started offering an exclusive red version of the Android-powered HTC Inspire 4G for AT&T. While the specs of the red version are no different from those of the original, the new red color scheme certainly is an eye-grabber. The HTC Inspire 4G features a large 4.3-inch Super LCD touchscreen and an 8 megapixel camera and it is being offered by The Shack for $29.99 with a new agreement or eligible upgrade.

LG Electronics CEO downplays mobile phone unit profitability expectations

LG Electronics CEO Koo Bon Joon said late last week that he feels it will be difficult for his company's mobile handset business unit to turn itself around in the second quarter of this year and post a profit. Bloomberg reports that multiple analyst firms had predicted in April and May of this year that the LG's phone unit would return to profitability this quarter. LG has been struggling to earns profits over the past few quarters.

Today Sprint stated that its first 3D capable smartphone, the HTC EVO 3D, will be available for purchase starting on June 24. As the name implies, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread-powered EVO 3D is capable of displaying 3D content on its large, qHD resolution touchscreen display. The EVO 3D can also create its own 3D content thanks to the dual 5-megapixel cameras that sit on the rear of the phone. Other features include a dual-core, 1.2GHz processor and a large 1730mAh battery The HTC EVO 3D will be available for $199.99 when picked up with a 2-year contract or eligible upgrade. It can be reserved on pre-order now through the purchase of a $50 Sprint gift card, and Sprint Premiere customers will be able to order the tablet online a bit early, starting on June 21.

Today Sprint announced that its own version of the 7-inch HTC Flyer, the EVO View 4G, will be available for purchase starting on June 24 and that Sprint will toss in one of HTC's Scribe pens ($79.99 value) for free, while supplies last. As the name implies, the EVO View 4G supports Sprint's 4G WiMAX network. The smaller sized EVO View also features a 1.5GHz processor and runs a custom tablet-friendly version of HTC's Sense user interface on top of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. The HTC EVO View 4G will be available for $399.99 when picked up with a 2-year contract or eligible upgrade.
