Orange UK unveils Barcelona budget Android smartphone

Orange UK has taken the wraps off of a new budget-minded Android smartphone, named the Barcelona. The Barcelona features a 2.6-inch landscape touchscreen, with a BlackBerry-esque full QWERTY keyboard below the display.

Toshiba Thrive Android tablet available for official pre-order

Following a pre-order listing from retailer J&R last month, Toshiba has officially unveiled pre-orders for the Thrive Android tablet. The Thrive is your typical Android 3.1 Honeycomb tablet, with a 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800 pixel screen, dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, and front and back cameras. Toshiba has differentiated the Thrive from the rest of the market by including full size USB and HDMI ports, in addition to a full-size SD card slot. The battery is user-replaceable as well, a rarity for tablets these days. The Thrive can be pre-ordered directly from Toshiba or at Amazon, Office Depot, and Tiger Direct. Prices start at $429.99 for an 8GB model, with 16GB and 32GB versions costing $479.99 and $579.99 respectively, and delivery is expected in mid-July.

Samsung DROID Charge update fixes mobile hotspot feature

A new software update is being pushed down to the Samsung DROID Charge on Verizon Wireless that fixes a number of bugs in the phone, including restoration of the mobile hotspot feature that has not worked since May. Other enhancements include better battery life when on phone calls, more reliable data connections, better browsing performance, a new email folder structure, and GPS performance improvements. Users will be notified when the update is ready to be installed on their phones.

BlackBerry PlayBook updated with Adobe Flash Player fix

A new update for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is out that addresses a vulnerability in the Adobe Flash Player that is built into the OS. The update is a minor version update from the 1.0.5 update that was released last week. Version 1.0.5.2342 contains the new version of Adobe Flash Player in it, though it doesn't seem like much else is packed along with that. The update is about 278MB in size and is available to download directly to the PlayBook now.

Apple files for another injunction against Amazon's use of Appstore

Apple has filed for another injunction against Amazon's use of Appstore, claiming that it violates a trademark on Apple's iTunes App Store. Apple also pointed out that Amazon's store is inferior to Apple's, since there are more security concerns and issues related with it.

iPhone will be sent to space on last shuttle mission

Apple's ubiquitous iPhone now has the honor of being a passenger on the last space shuttle mission scheduled for later this year. The astronauts will be testing the phone's accelerometer, gyroscope, camera, and other sensors in the zero-gravity environment. A special app called SpaceLab for iOS has been developed by Odyssey Space Research that will allow the astronauts to perform the tests. Instructions on performing the various tests are included in the app, so the astronauts will not have to pack any extra printed materials. The iPhone has been certified for space flight by NASA.

Apple sued over iCloud trademark

It wouldn't be the first time that Apple was sued for trademark infringement due to a newly launched product's name, so we're not exactly surprised that a company called iCloud Communications has filed suit over Apple's new cloud-based music and data synchronization service.
