Google Music for Android gets an update

Posted: 27 May 2011 05:10 AM PDT

Google has pushed an update for its new Music app for Android, bumping it up to version 3.0.1. Not much has changed in this new version, but the search giant has added the ability to delete songs that are stored on the SD card and fixed some bugs within the app. Hopefully the song-getting-stuck-in-a-repeat-loop bug that I have been cursing for the past two days has been fixed, but since Google did not say what bugs were fixed, it is hard to tell.

Netflix for Android updated with support for new phones

Posted: 27 May 2011 04:50 AM PDT

Netflix for Android has just gotten an update that fixes a few bugs and adds a few more phones to its supported device list. The LG Revolution, Motorola DROID, and Casio Gz'One Commando are all now compatible with the Netflix app and users with those phones can now install it from the Android Market. Curiously listed in the list of changes is that Netflix has "removed check that prevented attempt to playback on unsupported devices," which would imply that the app will work on any Android device now. That doesn't seem to be the case though, as phones that are not on the list of supported models still cannot access the Netflix app in the Android Market.

Verizon plans to make users pay for data overages, not throttle them

According to Verizon Wireless CFO Fran Shammo, the carrier will not be using a throttling scheme for when users go over their data allotments, but will charge overage fees instead. Current smartphone data plans on Verizon offer unlimited usage, but coming this summer, the carrier will replace those plans with limited versions, complete with overage fees when a user goes over their allotment. T-Mobile recently introduced limited data plans that have no overages, but rather throttle the connection speed until the next billing cycle. AT&T's data plans are limited and have charges for overages.
