Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro headed to O2 UK

Sony Ericsson's recently announced update to its X10 Mini pro, the Xperia mini pro, is headed to O2's lineup according to the carrier's website. O2 has created a teaser page that points to July as the time of arrival for the Xperia mini pro on its network. The mini pro features a 3-inch touchscreen and a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. It is powered by a 1GHz processor and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Sony Ericsson's custom interface.

Clearwire hires Ericsson to manage its 4G network

Clearwire has announced a new partnership between it and Ericsson that will have Ericsson handling the day-to-day operations and management of Clearwire's 4G network. The deal is for seven years and will allow Clearwire to lower costs and streamline its business.

Microsoft starts "Must Have Games" promotion for WP7 next week

Microsoft has announced that it will kick off its "Must Have Games" promotion for Windows Phone 7 next week, highlighting top gaming titles for the WP7 platform. Each week for six weeks a new top title will released, culminating with the release of Angry Birds for Windows Phone 7 on June 29.

HP TouchPad teaser on Best Buy's website

We are not sure if this is new or not, but Best Buy has set up a teaser page for the upcoming HP TouchPad tablet. The page doesn't give any info as to pricing or when the webOS-powered tablet will hit the market, but it does highlight the main features and gives a rundown of the specs. There is a teaser video available from the page as well. Call us excited, but summer can't come soon enough.

BlackBerry PlayBook sales estimated at 250k in the first month

An analyst for RBC claims that Research In Motion has had a strong start with its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet since its launch on April 19, and pegs sales for the first month to be in the range of 250,000. He goes on to say that the company could sell a total of 500,000 by the end of this quarter.

Privacy bill to require warrants to search email, electronic communications

Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont has introduced a bill that would update the 25 year old Electronic Communications Privacy Act that he authored back in 1986 to require search warrants to access email and location based data.

Intel has plans for 10 tablets this month

Google pushing out fix for Android security flaw

Google has acted swiftly on the reported flaw with Android's security that was making the rounds this week, and has confirmed that a fix is being deployed now. The security issue allowed malicious users to gain access to a user's Google account authorization tokens if they were connected to an open Wi-Fi network. Google say the fix is on the server side of things and requires no action from end-users. The update is rolling out globally over the next few days.

Virgin Mobile resurrects 500MB Broadband2Go plan

Virgin Mobile has elected to bring back its $20 Broadband2Go plan that offers 500MB of data use per month. It is available for all of Virgin's mobile broadband products, including the MiFi 2200 personal hotspot, Ovation MC760 USB modem, and the PEEL 3200 3G-enabled case for the iPod touch. Previously, the plan was only available to PEEL 3200 customers, but now all Virgin Mobile users can opt for it.

SANYO Innuendo evades retirement by migrating to Boost

Boost Mobile has picked up the SANYO Innuendo as a successor to the Incognito, its best-selling CDMA model. The Innuendo has been available in Sprint's lineup since last fall, but it now has renewed life on Sprint's Boost pre-paid brand. It offers a folding design with a 2.8-inch, WQVGA internal screen above a full QWERTY keyboard inside, and an external "glow-thru" capacitive dial-pad and sub-display on the front. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera with video capture and is eligible for Boost's $50 per month all you can eat plan. The Innuendo is available from Boost now for $129.99.

INQ Cloud Touch Facebook phone available in the UK

The INQ Cloud Touch, the smartphone for the Facebook-aholic, is now available from Talkmobile in the UK, and is eligible for the carrier's 12 GBP per month unlimited data plan. Included with the unlimited data services is 200 minutes of talk time and 200 text messages. Sounds like a pretty good deal for the person who just can't get enough Facebook, but doesn't want to break the bank on their addiction. The phone itself is free if you are willing to sign a two-year agreement.

T-Mobile has introduced a new plan for small businesses that is designed to provide predictable monthly costs. The new plan offers unlimited talk, text, and web service for $69.99 per month. This is a better deal than the current unlimited plan for consumers, which costs $79.99 per month for the same services. Unfortunately, the average Joe will not be able to get in on the deal, as you need a valid tax ID in order to be eligible for it. On the upside, there is no minimum line requirement, so that one-person, shoe-shining business of yours can get in on the offer. Trillian chat client for Android now free, adds adverts

Popular IM chat client Trillian has been available in Android for some time, but with a hefty price tag of $5. The app is now available in the Android Market for free, but users will now have to endure adverts during use. Trillian aggregates various instant messaging clients, as well as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Foursquare. For those that have already purchased Trillian for Android, accounts will be automatically upgraded to ad-free status.

LG Optimus Pad makes its Canadian debut on Rogers

Canadian carrier Rogers has scooped up the first Android tablet from LG, the Optimus Pad, for its lineup. The Optimus Pad should be familiar to Americans as the T-Mobile G-Slate, and it offers the usual Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet specs, including a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor. The trick up its sleeve is 3D recording capability thanks to dual 5 megapixel cameras on the back. We did a full review of the T-Mobile G-Slate and found it to be a solid competitor to other Android 3.0 tablets on the market today. Rogers is selling the Optimus Pad for $449 with a three-year data service contract, or $699 without a commitment.
