Consumer Reports: white iPhone is not thicker Posted: 02 May 2011 09:31 AM PDT There has been a lot of talk about the new white Apple iPhone 4 being thicker than the original black model, despite Apple's claims otherwise. Well, Consumer Reports has stepped up to back Apple's position, claiming that its own precision calipers say that both devices are .37 inches thick. CR has even posted photos showing the measurements being made. The publication does mistakenly claim that the difference was thought to be 2mm when reports are actually that it is .2mm. Assuming that its calipers are accurate to the 3 decimal places shown in the photos, a .2mm difference would still register. Read the full story here. |

White Apple iPhone 4 a black sheep inside, too Posted: 02 May 2011 09:01 AM PDT Just about everyone in the free world has heard about the size discrepancy between the white iPhone 4 and its black-coated cousin, which should only become a problem if you're frequently switching cases between colors. The real news on the white iPhone, however, has nothing to do with surface beauty, as a break-down of the device revealed that the white model has a more deeply recessed camera lens and a more visible proximity sensor than its black comrade. Speculation suggests these modifications probably have something to do with light-leakage issues, although we've received no official explanation from Apple for these changes. In any case, the white iPhone 4 is available in stores and online now. Read the full story here. |
Motorola CEO promises more ATRIX-esque Lapdock devices this year Posted: 02 May 2011 08:54 AM PDT As far as innovation is concerned, Motorola's transformable ATRIX 4G smartphone with laptop dock was definitely an idea with great potential, despite the fact that the smartphone failed to fly off the shelves as expected. Nevertheless, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha declared to investors on last week's earning results call that the company is ready to give the laptop dock idea another go, with a whole series of Lapdock devices coming in the second half of 2011. "You will see multiple devices from us in the second half launching with these capabilities, and we will expand the range of our Lapdock devices so we cover a broader price point, addressing both the enterprise premium tier as well as more consumer tiers," Mr. Jha said. The CEO also mentioned plans to introduce "successive iterations" of the Webtop software that accompanies Lapdock devices, which should "incorporate improved productivity tools and multiple price points." If you simply can't wait for what's in store later this year, the ATRIX 4G should see an official price drop: AT&T will offer the phone bundled with the Lapdock for $400 later in the month.
