T-Mobile now waving international fees to Japan Posted: 16 Mar 2011 05:16 AM PDT In an update to its statement from the other day, T-Mobile has announced that it will be waiving international calling and text messaging fees for those who call or message Japan. In addition, T-Mobile customers who use the Wi-Fi calling feature will also be able to call Japan at no additional charge. T-Mobile is making the credits retroactive to March 11 for anyone who has made calls to Japan already and the free calling will be effective until March 31. Read the full story here. |

Apple iPad 2 gets potential multi-point video chat with Vidyo Posted: 15 Mar 2011 01:38 PM PDT Vidyo today announced that Apple's iPad 2, along with Motorola's XOOM tablet and Atrix 4G smartphone, is compatible with Vidyo's VidyoTechnology SDK (software development kit), which will allow developers to build 720p HD multipoint video conferencing apps. The Vidyo platform lets customers join in on multi-person video conferences from whatever device-type they'd like. Just hours after the Friday launch, Vidyo had the iPad 2 running multipoint HD video conferencing using its Vidyo SDK. "The faster CPU of the Apple iPad 2 and its front and rear-facing cameras, make it an exciting platform that begs for HD multipoint video communication and collaboration," said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo's CEO and co-founder. Currently, the Vidyo platform supports devices such as the iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S smartphone, the Google Nexus S, and other various Android phones and tablets. HTC shipments on track after quake Posted: 15 Mar 2011 01:19 PM PDT HTC has announced that all shipments and future plans for the Taiwan-based company are still on track, even after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan Friday. HTC buildings and employees remained unaffected by the tragedy. However, reports claim that HTC's smartphone shipments may be delayed by a temporary supply halt out of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, which manufactures certain components necessary in HTC's handsets. "We have a comprehensive business continuity strategy and framework in place, which activates a secondary supply chain, in the event of a crisis or natural disaster, such as last Friday's massive earthquake," said Peter Chou, CEO at HTC. While HTC hasn't budged on its position concerning shipment disruption, other similar companies such as Nikon and Panasonic reported that some employees have been injured, factories damaged with portions of their businesses at a standstill due to factory investigations. Apple's online store is now showing a wait time of 4 to 5 weeks for the iPad 2. This is for all models, Wi-Fi and 3G, and regardless of color. Verizon Wireless waiving $35 activation fee for Android tablets Posted: 15 Mar 2011 11:09 AM PDT Verizon Wireless has informed us via email that it will be waiving the $35 activation fees for the Motorola XOOM and Samsung Galaxy Tab Android-powered tablets. The Apple iPad does not have an activation fee associated with it. Verizon is making this retroactive back to March 1, so customers who paid an activation fee will receive a credit back to their accounts. Pricing will be 649 EUR (US$901), unsubsidized and unlocked. The Xperia PLAY will be available in black on all carriers, while Vodafone will have an exclusive on the white model in Spain for 15 days.
