GPS group looks to stop LTE deployment by Lightsquared Posted: 12 Mar 2011 10:58 AM PST A group of companies and organizations have formed an alliance called the Coalition to Save Our GPS with the intent to make sure that wireless provider Lightsquared does not muck up the current infrastructure for GPS in our country. Lightsquared was recently awarded a block of spectrum to provide wireless broadband that sits right next to the spectrum used for GPS signals. The coalition claims that this could interfere with the GPS service and demands a third party investigation into the matter before Lightsquared deploys its network. Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 "copy and paste" delay explained Posted: 12 Mar 2011 06:55 AM PST Following the announcement of the Windows Phone 7 "copy and paste" update delay, the Windows Phone Blog published a post giving some insight into what we can expect from this and the next update, as well as an explanation for update issues in the past. Originally, Microsoft pledged to deliver the "copy and paste" update during the first half of March, but problems with the previous update seem to have the folks at Microsoft a little hesitant to send out the next. In February, Microsoft delivered an internal update to improve the update process in general, but pulled the plug after a number of Samsung Omnia 7 devices were bricked by the update. "I believe it's important that we learn all we can from the February update," said Eric Hautala of the Windows Phone Blog. "So I've decided to take some extra time to ensure the update process meets our standards, your standards, and the standards of our partners." To that end, the WP7 "copy and paste" update, which also includes better Marketplace search, will now be delivered during the latter half of March. However, the post promised that the next update, announced at Mobile World Congress, will arrive on time complete with multitasking, a Twitter feature, and an HTML 5-compatible version of Internet Explorer Mobile. AT&T launches myAT&T account management app Posted: 12 Mar 2011 06:28 AM PST AT&T has officially announced the re-branding of its myWireless Mobile App to myAT&T, which will expand the application's availability to AT&T U-verse customers. In congruence with the re-branding initiative, AT&T has also developed a mobile-optimized site that brings the same services to users via mobile web. Read the full story here. |
