Motorola Mobility invests in game publisher Moblyng

Through its strategic investment arm, Motorola Mobility yesterday announced an equity investment in game developer and publisher Moblyng, which offers cross-platform, HTML5-based games to mobile devices and social networks. As of yet, Moblyng has published games for Android, Facebook, iOS and webOS platforms, reaching over 9 million downloads. Managing director of Motorola Mobility Ventures Harshul Sanghi cited the alignment of both companies' regarding their relationships with Android as the main reason for the investment.

Microsoft planning new Windows tablet OS, may be too late

While Microsoft intends to enter the tablet arena along with mobile giants Google and Apple, it won't launch a rival device until fall of 2012, which just might be a little too late, reports Bloomberg.

Verizon Wireless iPad 2 landing on March 11

Verizon Wireless has confirmed on its website that it will offer Apple's iPad 2 starting on March 11. While we figured this would be the case all along, given that Apple gave a March 11 launch date, AT&T and Verizon had not confirmed that the 3G version of the device would be available on that exact date. AT&T hasn't specifically confirmed that it will launch the iPad 2 on March 11, although we suspect that it will also.

Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi Android tablet spotted at Sam's Club for $539

The $539 price-tag for Motorola's Wi-Fi-only edition of the XOOM, an Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet, may be more affordable than previously expected, according to photos of a Sam's Club test display unit taken by Droid-Life. Only two short weeks ago, Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha mentioned a $599 price-point for the iPad competitor, yet sources at Droid-Life claim that after its "Year Beginning" meeting, Motorola plans to release the device for $60 less. While there's no confirmed release date yet, many hope the U.S. launch of the XOOM will coincide with the European launch during the first week of April.

Apple may offer unlimited downloads for purchased music

According to Bloomberg, Apple is working with record companies in an effort to allow its customers to download music they've already purchased an unlimited number of times. It would be a welcome feature, and one that would allow iTunes to serve as a virtual back-up of your music collection. If you ever fry your hard drive and lose your iPhone, for example, you can re-download all of the music that you've purchased and lost. Apple is reportedly talking to Vivendi SA, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group Corp. and EMI Group Ltd. It's unclear if, or when, this feature would ever be implemented to iTunes.

The entry level Android smartphone offers a 3.14-inch touchscreen display screen with QVGA resolution, wireless tethering, Swype support,3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, and runs on Google's Android 2.2 Froyo OS. Google adds Honeycomb's "Fragments" system available on smartphones

Google has added a new software library to its Android software developer kit that adds support for Android Honeycomb's new Fragments API to smartphones running Android 1.6 or later. This add-on will allow developers to create user interfaces that properly support both smartphones and tablets of various screen sizes and resolutions. The Fragments API is a core feature of Android 3.0 Honeycomb for tablets, but was not available for use in existing Android smartphones until now.

Samsung concerned how Galaxy Tab 10.1 compares with Apple iPad 2

Lee Don-joo, the executive vice president of Samsung's mobile division, went on the record stating that Apple's new thinner and faster iPad 2 will post some challenges for Samsung. Lee said that Samsung will have to think about the pricing of its tablets, as well as the parts, to make them more compelling. "We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate. Apple made [the iPad 2] very thin. The 10-inch tablet was to be priced higher than the 7-inch but we will have to think that over," Lee told Yonhap News Agency.

Netflix for iPad gets refreshed

Netflix customers that use the iPad for on-the-go video streaming may notice some new changes after a recent update. The user interface has been reworked to offer easier movie browsing and now offers four main functions; Home, Genres, Search, and Instant Queue. It no longer offers the option to add movies to your DVD Queue.

Apple offering $100 refund to recent iPad customers

In addition to dropping the price of the original iPad, Apple is also offering those who purchased the iPad on or after February 16 a $100 refund. If you did, bring your receipt to a local Apple store and claim your rebate. It's unclear how long Apple will be honoring this refund.

Microsoft launches Bing deals for Android, iPhone

Microsoft has announced that its Bing deals product, which provides savings offers from Groupon, Living Social, and Restaurant.com to U.S. residents in 14,000 cities, is now available on mobile phones. Users can visit m.bing.com from either an iPhone or an Android smartphone, and they'll see a "deals" button on the homescreen that will take them to a list of nearby deals.
