Apple iOS 4.3 GoldMaster now available to developers

Apple has released the latest version of its iOS operating system, iOS 4.3, to developers. The new update adds support for mobile hotspot creation, AirPlay access, a new Javascript browser engine, and other minor tweaks. Apple will release the final version of the OS to the general public for its iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users on March 11.

Google Body now available for Android Honeycomb tablets

Google has made its Google Body app available for Honeycomb tablets. Google Body shows off the human anatomy in 3D and includes overlays for muscles, organs, bones, and other major body systems. The free app is can be found in the Android Market on Android 3.0 Honeycomb powered tablets like the Motorola XOOM.

Twitter for iPhone and iPad updated with new features

Today Twitter released an update to its app for both iPhone and iPad users. The new version, v.3.3, includes an overhauled Tweet compose screen, an automatic URL shortener, auto-complete for @usernames, an improved direct message conversation screen, and Quick Bar, a feature that shows trends and other information while still in your timeline. The free update is available now from Apple's iTunes.

Global BBC iPlayer for iPad to cost less than $10 per month

Mark Thompson, BBC's director general, said in an interview that when BBC launches its international iPlayer for Apple iPad users later this year, the app would cost less than $10. In reference to pricing of of the app, Thompson stated, "a small number of dollars per month, definitely fewer than 10". In addition, the international BBC iPlayer app will give users access to the full BBC archive of programs.

Verizon iPhone 4 may get iOS 4.3 update after AT&T

Yesterday Apple announced iOS 4.3, the latest software for the iPhone 4, iPad, and iPod touch devices. In its announcement release, Apple said that the update would roll out to the GSM iPhone 4 on March 11, which means the AT&T model here in the United States, but didn't mention when iOS 4.3 will be available for Verizon's iPhone 4. iOS 4.3 will add improved Safari Javascript performance, support for AirPlay video with third party apps, and local streaming from iTunes. It will add the Mobile Hotspot feature to AT&T's iPhone, but Verizon's already had that support in iOS 4.2.5. We expect Verizon's iPhone 4 will get the update shortly after it rolls out on March 11.

Google Maps for Android updated with Twitter support, ping messaging

Today Google updated its Maps application to version 5.2. The update adds a new option to Tweet your restaurant reviews to Twitter, and also includes a new "ping" feature that allows you to request the exact location of a friend.

AT&T not surprised by number of Verizon iPhone defectors

During a technology conference hosted by Morgan Stanley in San Francisco this week, AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega said that AT&T wasn't surprised by the number of subscribers who defected for Verizon's iPhone.

AT&T intros new tablet postpaid data plan

Today AT&T announced new monthly data options for tablets. It is now offering a postpaid $14.99 plan which offers 250MB, or a $25 plan for 2GB. If a customer goes over the 2GB limit they'll pay $10 for each extra gigabyte. That plan is in addition to the existing prepaid plan. The prepaid pricing is the same, but the the overage fee is $25 for 2GB of extra data. AT&T says both options available on a month-to-month and do not require a long term commitment. The postpaid billing option is avialable in AT&T retail stores, ATT.com, Best Buy, Fry's, some Nexcom locations, and Walmart stores nationwide.

Best Buy has announced it will offer Apple's new iPad 2 tablet beginning on March 11. The iPad 2 will be available in stores on a first come, first served basis. The iPad 2 is a thinner, lighter, and more powerful tablet and offers dual cameras for picture taking and video chatting.

Via its Twitter feed, T-Mobile announced that it and Orange will both offer Apple's iPad 2 tablet. No further information was given. The iPad 2 is thinner than the original iPad, has a dual-core processor, and dual cameras for picture taking and video chatting.

Apple iPad 2 headed to Rogers

Not wanting to be left out of the fun, Canadian wireless carrier Rogers has announced that it will offer the new iPad 2 from Apple to its customers. Apple stated during its press conference that the iPad 2 would hit non-U.S. markets starting March 25 but Rogers has not offered any more details regarding price, data plans, or availability date.

Microsoft starts rolling out Samsung Windows Phone 7 update again

Today Microsoft announced that it has resumed rolling out a Windows Phone 7 update for Samsung phones that should prep the devices for a future copy/paste update. The software is being applied on a rolling schedule, and users will be alerted when it's available on their phone. Microsoft said its engineers pinpointed and fixed problems that were causing issues when the update first started rolling out in February.
