Apple sells 26 million iPhones, 17 million iPads in fiscal Q3 2012

This afternoon, Apple announced its earnings for the third fiscal quarter of this year and revealed that it sold 26 million iPhones and 17 million iPads in the quarter. Though iPhone sales were down from Q2, both iPhone and iPad sales were up significantly from last year, and iPad sales were up 5 million from Q2.

Cloud storage service Box releases app for Windows Phone smartphones

Box, a cloud storage service provider, announced a new app for Windows Phone smartphones today. The Box for Windows Phone app lets users access and view their files stored on the service, add collaborators and invite others to access shared files, and manage the files on their accounts. The app also features a Live Tile to quickly see when updates have been made to a particular file by other users. Box for Windows Phone is free and can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace now. Additionally, Box announced a partnership with Qualcomm that will see its app pre-loaded on select Android and Windows Phone devices in the near future. Box says that owners of devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor will get the Box OneCloud apps for Android at no cost.

LG renames Quick Voice to Q Voice, plans to offer it for English speakers next year

LG has revealed that its Quick Voice service, the firm's answer to Apple's Siri and Samsung's S Voice, will support English in the first half of next year. The service has been rebranded as Q Voice, and it lets users control their smartphones with their voice, much in the same way that Siri and S Voice already do. LG says that Q Voice is intelligent enough to pick out a woman's voice among a crowd of men, and it includes various witty responses for certain queries. Q Voice is still only supported by the Korean versions of the Optimus LTE II and Optimus Vu, but LG plans to bring it to more models in the future.

Nokia completes acquisition of imaging technology company Scalado

Nokia announced today that it has completed its planned acquisition of Scalado, a company that specializes in imaging technology. Nokia says that 50 of Scalado's employees are being transferred to Nokia, and it plans to use Scalado's technology in future smartphones and other devices. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
