AT&T announces Mobile Share data plans, arriving next month Posted: 18 Jul 2012 03:59 AM PDT This morning, AT&T announced its new Mobile Share plans, which offer customers a single data bucket that can be shared across multiple devices. The new plans are similar to the Share Everything plans that Verizon Wireless introduced late last month, and include unlimited talk and text in addition to the data service. New processing chip claimed to revolutionize mobile device speakers Posted: 17 Jul 2012 01:45 PM PDT A new audio signal processing chip from NXP Semiconductors claims to dramatically enhance the output and quality of audio from speakers used in mobile devices. U.S. Cellular asks the FCC for permission to buy 700MHz spectrum from Actel Posted: 17 Jul 2012 09:47 AM PDT U.S. Cellular has filed a petition with the Federal Communications Commission for permission to buy a swath of 700MHz spectrum licenses from Actel. The seven licenses are in the Lower A block of the 700MHz band, and cover 35 markets in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. "The additional spectrum will allow (U.S. Cellular) to offer innovative services and improve its voice and data offerings to the public," said the company in its filing. U.S. Cellular currently uses both Lower A and B block 700MHz spectrum for its 4G LTE network. The terms of the proposed purchase were not disclosed. Read the full story here. |

Kyocera Hydro waterproof smartphone coming to Boost Mobile August 3 for $129.99 Posted: 17 Jul 2012 06:15 AM PDT Boost Mobile has announced that it will offer the Kyocera Hydro smartphone starting on August 3. The Hydro was unveiled at CTIA earlier this year and features a waterproof construction that allows it to be submerged in three feet of water for up to 30 minutes at a time. The Hydro runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It has a 3.5-inch display and comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera. T-Mobile launches new 500MB Open Europe plan for traveling business customers Posted: 17 Jul 2012 05:45 AM PDT T-Mobile has announced a new data plan for business customers who travel to Europe. The new Open Europe plan offers 500MB of data at full 3G/4G speeds in 28 countries throughout Europe for $50 per month. Customers that go beyond the 500MB limit will not be charged for overages, but will see their connection speeds throttled to 2G levels. T-Mobile says the new plan will be available next month.
