Google adds floor plans for 20 museums to Maps for Android Posted: 10 Jul 2012 01:37 PM PDT Google announced today that users of its Google Maps for Android app can now access floor plans to 20 different museums located throughout the U.S. in the app. Users will be able to navigate their way through the museums even when they are inside buildings and don't have a clear view of the sky. The museums that are supported by the new feature are the de Young Museum in San Francisco, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cincinnati Museum Center, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History, 17 Smithsonian museums, and the Smithsonian National Zoo. Motorola launches the RAZR V smartphone in Canada Posted: 10 Jul 2012 12:45 PM PDT Motorola announced the RAZR V today, a new member of its RAZR Android smartphone family that will be available soon in Canada. Twitter refreshes apps for iPhone, Android smartphones Posted: 10 Jul 2012 11:45 AM PDT Twitter released new versions of its apps for the iPhone and Android smartphones today that offer improved search experiences, more notification options, and Twitter's new expanded tweets feature. The new apps feature autocomplete when searching, the ability to set notifications for when other users post tweets, and the ability to follow along with live events. The new expanded tweets feature lets users see embedded images, links, and videos that are within tweets without having to leave the app. Users will be able to download the new apps from the Google Play Store and iTunes App Store today. New Google+ app for iPhone, iPad now available Posted: 10 Jul 2012 10:34 AM PDT Google announced during its Google I/O developer conference last month that a new version of its Google+ app for iOS would be coming soon, and today it is available for download in the iTunes App Store. The big new feature with the updated app is proper support for the iPad tablet, complete with a tablet-optimized interface and new light-colored theme. The new tablet interface is not unlike the version for Android tablets that debuted last month, and features a side scrolling feed and multi-touch gestures for sharing and viewing posts. The iPhone version retains the dark theme of the older Google+ app, but both versions also gain access to the new Google+ Events feature and the ability to start video hangouts from the device. Dropbox doubles capacities of Pro plans without raising prices, adds new 500GB tier Posted: 10 Jul 2012 09:58 AM PDT Cloud storage service Dropbox has announced that starting today, it is doubling the storage capacities of its existing Pro plans to 100GB and 200GB without raising their annual cost. Customers that were paying $9.99 per month or $99 per year for 50GB of online storage will now be able to access 100GB of space at no additional charge, while those on the old 100GB plan that cost $19.99 per month or $199 per year will enjoy 200GB of storage. Additionally, Dropbox is introducing a new 500GB option that costs $49.99 per month or $499 per year. Finally, Dropbox is also giving all of its Pro plan customers a three-month Pro 100 trial subscription that can be shared with a friend or family member. Dropbox offers mobile apps for a variety of platforms, including iOS and Android, which have features like automatic photo and video back up to the cloud. Read the full story here. |
Samsung Galaxy S III arrives at U.S. Cellular this week Posted: 10 Jul 2012 09:33 AM PDT U.S. Cellular has just dropped us a note to announce that its version of the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone will be available for purchase this week. The carrier says that customers will be able to order the phone from its online store starting tomorrow, and that it will be available for in-store purchase by the end of the week. The Samsung Galaxy S III is available in either 16GB or 32GB configurations for $199.99 and $249.99, respectively, and can be purchased in Marble White or Pebble Blue color schemes. New Apple iPad available in China starting on July 20 Posted: 10 Jul 2012 05:51 AM PDT Now that Apple has settled the trademark fight with ProView in China, it has announced that the new iPad tablet will go on sale in the country starting on July 20. Chinese customers will be able to grab the tablet in the same configurations offered in other markets. The tablet is offered in Wi-Fi-only or Wi-Fi + cellular versions with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of storage. Verizon picks up BlackBerry Curve 9310 smartphone Posted: 10 Jul 2012 05:36 AM PDT Verizon Wireless announced today that it will offer the BlackBerry Curve 9310 smartphone starting this week. The Curve 9310 features BlackBerry OS 7.1, has a 3.2 megapixel camera, and comes with a dedicated key for RIM's BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) service. Verizon is pairing the Curve 9310 with a new plan that offers unlimited talk, unlimited text, and 300MB of data usage for $80 per month. The Curve 9310 will be available starting on July 12 for $49.99 with a new two-year agreement. Boost Mobile also carries the BlackBerry Curve 9310, which it started selling late last month.
