Sprint updates Samsung Galaxy S III availability status, launch won't happen tomorrow Posted: 20 Jun 2012 02:34 PM PDT Yesterday, it was revealed that Sprint and T-Mobile were going to have trouble securing enough units of the Samsung Galaxy S III in time for a proper launch on their previously announced schedules. T-Mobile said that it would be offering the phone in select stores and in limited quantities online on June 21, while Sprint claimed that it would have stock to sell online and through its telesales tomorrow. Things seem to have changed for Sprint now, as the carrier says that it will not have any units to sell in its online store tomorrow, but customers that pre-ordered the device should receive it as originally promised. Windows Phone 8 devices to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor Posted: 20 Jun 2012 01:50 PM PDT During the unveiling of Windows Phone 8 earlier today, Microsoft confirmed that it would still be partnering with Qualcomm for the processors in Windows Phone 8 devices, just as it had with the earlier Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones. Windows Phone 8 won't be saddled with yesterday's silicon, however, as Qualcomm has revealed that the processor inside the upcoming smartphones will be the Snapdragon S4 Plus model. That will change somewhat this fall, as Microsoft has announced that game developer Zynga has committed to bringing its super-popular Words With Friends and Draw Something games to the Windows Phone platform. Windows Phone uses will be able to play against other smartphone owners on Android and iOS once the games are released. Microsoft is carrying over its relationship with Qualcomm for the processors inside Windows Phone 8 devices, but we can expect see the best dual-core processors that Qualcomm has to offer instead of the older single-core chips that current Windows Phone 7.5 devices have. Windows Phone 8 includes a number of new features, such as support for high-resolution displays, native NFC support, a new Mobile Wallet Hub, a redesigned Start screen, and more. Unfortunately for existing Windows Phone 7.5 users, an upgrade will not be available to Windows Phone 8 when it comes to the market. Microsoft says that there were too many underlying platform changes to make the update possible. However, all is not lost, as the software giant plans to release a Windows Phone 7.8 update for legacy devices that includes the new Start screen feature coming in Windows Phone 8. AT&T users in Nashville, Davidson County and surrounding areas, and Lawrenceburg, Tenn. can now access the carrier's fastest data service. LG takes on Siri and S Voice with Quick Voice voice recognition system Posted: 20 Jun 2012 05:11 AM PDT The arena for manufacturer-built, voice-controlled personal assistants is about to get slightly more crowded, as LG has just unveiled its own entry into the mix. Dubbed Quick Voice, LG's solution aims to offer what Apple's Siri and Samsung's S Voice already do, namely, let users control and interact with their phones using natural language. The personal assistant can be used to set appointments, perform searches, or launch YouTube videos. LG confirmed the Quick Voice feature is coming to the Optimus Vu and Optimus LTE II in Korea first.
