Nokia announces leadership changes, revised financial outlook, 10,000 job cuts Posted: 14 Jun 2012 04:44 AM PDT Things haven't been so easy for Nokia lately, as it has seen its market share decline across the world and recently lost the title of the world's largest mobile phone maker to Samsung. As a result of this decline, Nokia today announced some new leadership changes, a revised financial outlook for the second quarter of 2012, and a series of layoffs that will cut 10,000 jobs by the end of 2013. Twitter adds more rich media previews to mobile website Posted: 13 Jun 2012 01:52 PM PDT Today, Twitter announced new partnerships with content providers to offer more rich media and content previews to tweets viewed on its mobile.twitter.com website on a mobile device. The new content previews will be displayed on expanded tweets with links to articles from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time and others. Users will be able to view the article's headline, introduction, and sometimes the Twitter accounts of the author and publisher. Tweets with links to other sources like BuzzFeed and TMZ will display photos and graphics. The new content previews are available at mobile.twitter.com now. Read the full story here. |
Amazon Kindle for Android updated with improved layout for tablets Posted: 13 Jun 2012 01:03 PM PDT Amazon updated its Kindle app for Android devices today, and it added some new features that should make Android tablet owners happy. The updated version of Kindle for Android now offers margin and line spacing controls, as well as the ability to view two pages side-by-side when in landscape orientation. It's a bit hard to believe that the Kindle app for Android didn't offer side-by-side pages before this, but at least it finally does now. Amazon says that there are a few bug fixes in the updated version of the app, as well. Kindle for Android is free and available in the Google Play Store now. Read the full story here. |
My Xbox Live app arrives on Android, gains remote features on iOS Posted: 13 Jun 2012 12:26 PM PDT Microsoft updated its My Xbox Live companion app for mobile devices today, adding compatibility with Android and a new remote feature to control the Xbox console in the iOS version. As seen originally in the Windows Phone version of the app, iOS users can access Quickplay content and a remote control to navigate the Xbox interface. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Android users have access to these features just yet, though they can view their Xbox Live profiles and friends statuses. HTC: We'll stick to mid-range and high-end smartphones, thanks Posted: 13 Jun 2012 10:01 AM PDT HTC has revealed that it has no intention to move away from its current strategy of mid-range and high-end smartphones. The Taiwanese company does not plan to release low-end devices in a race-to-the-bottom of the price bracket in order to compete with Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and ZTE. HTC One S with Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor being sold in select markets Posted: 13 Jun 2012 06:58 AM PDT HTC has confirmed that the One S smartphone is being sold in select Asian and European markets with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 processor. The older S3 is being used instead of the newer Snapdragon S4 processor that was included when the phone first launched. The Taiwanese company claims that the switch was made because Qualcomm has not been able to produce enough S4 processors to meet demand. Read the full story here. |
