AT&T to open Samsung Galaxy S III pre-orders on June 6; exclusive red color coming this summer

Making it the last of the five U.S. carriers to announce availability for the Samsung Galaxy S III, AT&T has finally revealed that it will open up pre-orders for the device on June 6. AT&T will offer the 16GB version of the phone for $199.99, but it is not going to sell the 32GB model at all. Instead, AT&T will offer customers a 16GB microSD card for $39, giving customers the option of 32GB of storage for a total cost of $238.99. Customers will be able to place pre-orders online or at AT&T company-owned retail locations. Exact availability was not yet announced, but AT&T did say it would be hitting shelves in the coming weeks. In addition to the Marble White and Pebble Blue color options that the other carriers are offering, AT&T will also have an exclusive red color for the Galaxy S III later this summer.

It appears that Apple's design for the "nano" SIM card was indeed the one chosen by ETSI late last week. Though ETSI did not reveal which design won out, SIM card maker Giesecke & Devrient revealed that Apple's design was the winner.

Verizon offering $100 discount on any Motorola LTE smartphone

Verizon Wireless has announced a Father's Day promotion that will let consumers get $100 off the price of any Motorola 4G LTE smartphone purchased now through June 17. The deal requires that the Android powered smartphones be picked up with a 2 year agreement and a data plan to qualify for the discount. Motorola's DROID RAZR MAXX can be had for $199.99, the original RAZR and DROID 4 for $99.99, and the DROID BIONIC for free.

Today Corning, the maker of the super-tough Gorilla Glass that is found on many smartphones, announced that it has unveiled a new glass product called Willow Glass. Willow Glass is a super-thin, flexible glass substrate layer that can be used to create truly curved OLED and LCD displays.

U.S. Cellular has announced that it will offer the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone for pre-order on June 12. The phone is expected to be available in stores at some point in July. The Galaxy S III features a 4.8-inch, HD Super AMOLED display, a dual-core processor, 8 an megapixel camera, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Samsung's TouchWiz interface. It also supports U.S. Cellular's 4G LTE network. U.S. Cellular will offer the phone in Marble White or Pebble Blue color options, and it will be available in either 16GB or 32GB storage capacities. The carrier says that pricing information will be announced on June 12 when pre-orders go live.

Sprint has announced that like T-Mobile, it too will offer the Samsung Galaxy S III for purchase on June 21. The difference between Sprint's version of the phone and the one offered by the other U.S. carriers is that Sprint's model will support Google Wallet from the get-go. Sprint will offer 16GB and 32GB versions of the Galaxy S III, priced at $199.99 and $249.99, respectively. The 16GB model will be available through all of Sprint's sales channels, while the 32GB version will only be available online. Customers can place a pre-order for the device at sprint.com starting on June 5. It will be available in either Marble White or Pebble Blue color options.

T-Mobile USA to offer Samsung Galaxy S III on June 21

T-Mobile USA has announced that it will make the Samsung Galaxy S III Android-powered smartphone available to its customers starting on June 21. Unlike the quad-core European version of the device, the U.S. version of the GS3 features a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor in order to support T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42Mbps data speeds. The Galaxy S III features a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capability, and the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It is powered by a large 2100mAh battery, offers a whopping 2GB of RAM, and comes in 16GB and 32GB storage capacities. T-Mobile has not announced the price of the device, but we expect it to sell in the $199 area for the 16GB version.

Photo-sharing app picplz to shutter on July 3

In an email sent to users this weekend, photo-sharing app and service picplz has announced that it will be shutting down early next month. Picplz offered similar features to Instagram, and allowed users to easily add filters to their smartphone pictures and then share them to a variety of social networks.
